Climbed Quandary Peak a couple of days ago, and this was the view from there. The weather was amazing. I've never felt the air so still at those elevations.
So far this year we've had: the warmest winter on record in the mountain west, a record-shattering heat wave in Europe, once in a thousand year rainfall and flooding texas and forest fire smoke blanketing the mid west and the north east. Feels like something's going on with the climate!
We were up in the mountains at Dillon Reservoir yesterday. Water level about 20 feet below normal after the record low snowpack last winter. This is the view from the boat ramp.

I used to think that we'd come to a cultural tipping point on climate change, but I now think that most people would literally rather live in air conditioned pods and eat lab-grown food while the world burns to cinder than make any "sacrifices."

Moved around some cinderblocks we've had sitting outside for a couple of years, and this fell out... It would fit in the palm of your hand. Maybe some kind of fungus? Or maybe its scheming alien intelligence will kill us all?
Years ago I published a story in Ploughshares called “The Crying Man,” and now this one, and hopefully someday I’ll publish an entire book of stories about guys crying.
