At BookCon, held April 18–19 at Javits Center in New York City, author Rachel Ekstrom Courage made a splash—literally—with copies of the first book in her Golden Girls Cozy Mystery series, Murder by Cheesecake, and the forthcoming second installment, Death on the Lanai (both Hyperion Avenue).

Authors receive a percentage of the cover price. Cover prices and %s are higher in books for adults than children. You have to sell more copies (32x in this case) to equal the income, which is why most kid lit book creators supplement income with paid school visits (or used to, they're drying up)

I get yelled at for saying this but for many hundreds of years people went to university not to get diplomas or be employable but because immersion in the humanities was considered foundational to a good life, and school must return to its original purpose: the joy of learning.
