It's important to build a whole new TTRPG system from scratch every time you spin up a new campaign, and saying "oh, fuck, I forgot you guys might try to do that, there's nothing in the system that handles it so let's take a 10 minute break while I think about this" is actually the best part.
Gen Con is almost over quick post the rest of your bad game design takes before everyone comes back
Very fun experiment on a rainy day today. The neighborhood girls wondered if it would be possible to make a potato substitute somehow with the ingredients we had at hand. We ended up trying to make cauliflower croquettes, subbing boiled cauliflower for the potato. Verdict: unconvincing but tasty!
Ooh, Neuromancer movie? I'm down. I read it for the first time recently, but I maybe ought to read it again. I liked a lot about it but I found the writing style really difficult to digest. I think I read every paragraph twice, just trying to parse it out.
Normally I try to separate my personal and professional presence online, but I'm going to make an exception. My team is hiring! We are small and restricted to hiring Canadians (to adhere to grant requirements, among other things), but we need a Unity pro! www.workwithindies.com/careers/the-...

Ran my first game in a while tonight! All-Out Apocalypse for some friends / former colleagues. Tasked with securing the last known tub of Cookies and Cream from the Ben & Jerry's Flavour Experience, they led their refrigerated robot buddy Yeti into the strangely fortified ice cream lab.
Having shared the Deathbringer campaign, here is a critique. We can enjoy nostalgia without dismissing modern RPG fans. This offers valid food for thought regarding the game's promotion and creative details. https://magnoliakeep.blogspot.com/2026/07/the-thoughtlessness-of-deathbringers.html?m=1
If anyone is getting smacked with this - just use deer.social or another alternate client. Bsky is just an AT Protocol Client, and your Bsky account is an AT Protocol account - you can use your same Bsky account thru another AT Protocol Client, no migration or loss necessary. Could not be easier.

TTRPG mechanic: When you roll up your character you get a d4, d6, d10, and d12. You assign one each to your hit die, your melee weapons, your ranged weapons, and your spell casting and you're stuck with that for the rest of the game. Levelling just unlocks new ways to use those dice.

I am hosting the RPG Blog Carnival for June 2026! The topic is Cyclopes, Ettins, Hill Giants, and Ogres: advantageonarcana.bearblog.dev/cyclopes-ett... My feeling is that these smaller giants are too often underdeveloped. Consider fixing this problem in your own post this month!
I love this/want to make sure that DANGER CLOSE would also kinda just work like this: natural language doing the heavy lifting.

And that's my final eidolon that I painted for @epidiah.bsky.social's Swords Without Master! If you'd like to see the full folio, I've written a little on my blog about them, and included this sneak peek into the thumbnails that started them all! See them here: www.portablecity.net/trials-of-th...
Very nearly done the painting here! At this stage I'm checking for any areas that are challenging to read, where i could push contrast, and trying to be sure that the narrative and spacial layout land the way i hoped. All tweaks from here on out will be pretty tiny, but they still take time!

Excellent stuff as always. Insightful, but also actionable!
It was a near thing, but I did write a blog post this May as a response to the RPG Blog Carnival, hosted by @vulcansteve.bsky.social this time: advantageonarcana.bearblog.dev/appendix-n5-... I mostly parody myself, talking a lot about game mechanics, René Girard, and C. S. Lewis's astrology.
