Finally gave Bloodsport Gambler a try. As a solo game, it does not pull punches at all. 2-player is also a furious time. So many ideas to mine here for other games though.

These three games I just picked up today. They’re like a collection of what has been and is possible in #ttrpgs. Also got to recommend some folks Michael Korns’ Modern War in Miniature as they’re actually making a version of that game without knowing it. It’s been a neat day for games things.

Finally giving the #boardgame Bloodsport Gambler a try. For a solo game, it offers some pretty intense fun. Four two players, it’s super fascinating. I wonder about combining two sets for 4 players. It has a really interesting use for random secret info that should be used more often in games.
Long ago, I swore I’d never talk about things I didn’t experience or do first hand. It’s worked out ok aside from internet discourse and working with churn focused academics. Starting my 10thish life if we go by career changes. It isn’t always happy but I’m always learning new things. it’s nice!
Been enjoying a #wargames mystery started on a comics forum. Seems this game was maybeade by someone on the HMS Malaya and they got to the point of selling and advertising. So many games during this time are gone hit curious if anyone has seen a copy?
Dang, got copy of Steve Jackson Games’ different Steve Jackson penned The Fantasy Trip. To call the box big is an understatement. Next up, gonna buy big Ogre, I guess. Transition to Austin will be complete then.
We have an opening in our Psychology department for an Assistant Professor of Cognitive or Social Psychology. I've been told they are open to cognitive science candidates, and we'd be happy in CS to collaborate with such a person!

I’m redeveloping a course that was devoted to, “how does ms office work” into a communication pipeline course that takes a tour of a ton of different tools. To call it difficult is an understatement. How do you overcome the, “that’s not how it works in word” problem? Paradox of the Active User.
I made friends with a garbage truck driver the other day. We talked a lot about sanitation.
A lot of my nerve damage and carpel tunnel is subsiding thanks to exercise and acupuncture. So now, I’m ready to start a montage to reclaim the flamin finger crown I never had but always wanted but couldn’t have because I had numb fingers…

Something i've appreciated that is starting to show more regularly in #ttrpgs is people using the pages as random number generators. I really liked how the reprint of @jonathantweet.bsky.social's Everway used this in the Player's book. Am reading Oldest child and they have an RNG schema p3.
I haven’t really dug into the #ttrpg -ish, “The Fantasy Trip.” so I started looking for a list of changes between this edition and the very confusingly Double Steve Jackson @sjgames.com reprint. Found this site: www.hcobb.com/tft/legacy_f... Comfortable getting the reprint rather than original.

Played some Thunder Road Vendetta #ttrpg from @9thlevelgames.bsky.social. Playing a Viking-themed Zoox Cube named Onboard Bluetooth. Smart Cars in Mad Max is a whole canvas for everyone, it seems. Originally started with post apoc Speed Buggy.
Been piecing together a game focused on figuring out how to survive while pinned under rubble. I want to offer different ways to examine design extensibility or ways that we could design things to enhance survivability in various conditions.
Been setting up a series of projects for myself to really push on what sorts of designs I can actually do. No papers, no publication intent, just design. Super excited.
Today is the last day for me in academia. Honestly, my last day was in March of 2020 but I thought I could find joy l…somehow. I met a few of my original mentors last month. Super supportive. Working to live is now the order of the day. What comes next for work will be neat though…
Went and got acupuncture today for a nerve injury presenting like carpel tunnel. Fingers been numb for a month and a half. the switch from numb to pain is remarkable. Can feel where the injury is.

The 2026 conference of the North American Simulation and Gaming Association (NASAGA) will take place in Rochester, New York on 14-17 October. This year’s conference theme is “Sustaining Human Connection through Play in the Digital Age.” As our lives rely more and more on digital tools, we end up spending a lot more time interacting with our phones, tablets, smartwatches, and computers on our own.

Been fumbling around with trying to untangle my thoughts on #wargaming and #emergencymanagement. Nothing crazy, I think; however, i'm sure some ideas are not as fully developed as a full on publication. That'd be next. nicklalone.com/posts/wargam...

The flexible rules engine that powers Over the Edge derived from work I had done earlier trying to develop a generic system for one-shots, so it's easy to adapt to other settings. I was adapting it to other settings years before Over the Edge released. #ttrpg
