It seems to me that the time is ripe for a Bluesky thread about how—and maybe even why—to befriend crows. (1/n)

Diamond’s Trustee Morgan W. Fisher and some Publishers Reach a Settlement over Consigned Goods It's a hell of a new comic book day as court documents have been released as to a settlement between Diamond's trustee Morgan W. Fisher and a group of publishers concerning consigned goods being held by…
I voted in the Washington primary and local elections. Voting is like democratic communion, where people’s votes—insignificant individually—are transubstantiated into the only thing that finally matters: the people’s votes.
I kinda dig the apocalyptic flavor of wildfire smoke blanketing Seattle, with the sky hazy. The sky is not exactly "the color of television, tuned to a dead channel", but it'll do. The smoke must be terrible in eastern Washington if it's this smoky on the other side of the mountains.
Now, I'm a huge fan of the party patron guidance found in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything and Eberron: Rising from the Last War. @lochinvar.bsky.social and I have been watching Apothecary Diaries, and it got me thinking about adding mechanics for treating the patron as a shared team asset.
Both GYRO SHOOTER and another project of mine, BIG ROBOT, are set in my own ARCLIGHT universe. This is an original setting that crosses many generations and eras and has psychics and robots and commentary on war and climate change and so on. I'm also thinking that HAMMERHEADS belongs to it, too.

Love that these monstrous monsters were on our branch of the evolutionary tree of life, and they ate the sorry reptiles on the other (lesser) branch. Am I a bigot for favoring our branch? Maybe. An evolutionary branch is a clade (Greek: klados).
@matthewrossi.bsky.social , they’re playing your song.
Okay kids, who wants to drink from the fire hose? The fire hose OF MONSTERS, that is! See out Thewly with our #StrangeStudies Extra Credit on Deathstalker (2025), available on Patreon at the Scholar level or higher! #hppodcraft
Wait, who would be a fan of wildfire weather? That's weird.
Happy to see that "a lot of modern games" use abstract distance, and I appreciate the temptation to spell out what each "abstract" measure converts to in actual distance.
Ranges and distances are abstracted into bands, much as a lot of modern games do. But instead of 3 simple ones like "Next to/nearby/far" they have 5 bands and each has a listed distance range in feet or metres. It doesn't feel like it's really been abstracted, just made more fiddly.
These might have been the earliest felids but not the earliest feliforms, and thus not ancestral to hyenas.

I finally saw Idiocracy, and I was delighted to see that it has a real Over the Edge vibe: vulgar consumer capitalism, oddball personal names, farcical democracy, general degeneracy, etc. It's not a great movie, but there's nothing else quite like it. #ttrpg 1/2
The blues set in as I'm back from @the-kraken.bsky.social I can at least reflect on all the games and good times. Played: 13th Age in Glorantha CyBorg Delta Green Feng Shui Over the Edge Royal Blood Two Sides to the Coin Ran: AGON Barbarians of Lemuria Pendragon Savage Worlds Vaesen
Glad you got them all! We broke some interesting new ground with them: first GMless RPG, first epistolatory/journalling RPG, first single-session RPGs, first RPGs with winners... and proving there was a market for sub-100page RPGs at a sub-$10 price point too.
Something i've appreciated that is starting to show more regularly in #ttrpgs is people using the pages as random number generators. I really liked how the reprint of @jonathantweet.bsky.social's Everway used this in the Player's book. Am reading Oldest child and they have an RNG schema p3.
GMing tip: don't be afraid to get physical when demonstrating something to the players, or when asking them to demonstrate how they're doing something. For example, here's me showing how my PCs described themselves peeking around the top edge of a staircase to see what was nearby.
My daughter & son-in-law have the rights to publish a short print run of a remarkable board game that originally ran in Futurist magazine. They want to produce a nice-looking game but at a small scale. Anyone want to help them locate a suitable printer?
Last week I ran an adventure with two players & they liked it so much that they want to play again so they can see the other players in the group find their way through the plot. They offered to play as dumb PCs, but I think instead I'll recruit them to play NPCs. www.backerkit.com/c/projects/w...

Last week, my step-daughter & I dropped in on @chanceencounter.games in Ravenna (Seattle), and we were impressed. They have a big array of indie games. My step-daughter bought something for herself, I got a picked up a copy of Daggerheart, which I’d heard all about at @the-kraken.bsky.social.
FWIW, it’s “Gen Con”. Peter Adkison schooled me on that several years ago. I had been spelling it “GenCon” since the 70s or 80s, and somehow I never noticed how it’s officially spelled.

Saw The Odyssey and liked it. ...spoiler... The way Odysseus breaks the rules to win and brings about the fall of civilization nicely follows the model of Norse mythology, where the Aesir themselves are obliged to break their word, etc, and bring down upon them the end of the worlds. 1/1
Gamers! As you might know, at the Diana Jones Award ceremony, I read a list of the tabletop gaming industry folks who left us in the year since the previous ceremony. While I have a heartbreakingly long list of people already for this year, I'd like some help to make sure I haven't missed anyone.
I bet @gregstolze.bsky.social could work "contagious cancer" into one of his stories.
