You will not believe how many roads I've subsidized that I've never driven on!
Opinion: Mamdani's idea may sound appealing, but it's NYC taxpayers who will take the hit, subsidizing discounts they may never even use.

Fascinating experiment: current AI systems lack creativity to reliably pursue research arxiv.org/abs/2607.27191 - poor judgment about the bar for publishable research - uncreative responses in research design - ineffective backtracking from dead ends - poor resource awareness - instruction drift
Can AI agents conduct open-ended AI research? Early evidence from two case studies
Forecasts of explosive AI progress hinge on AI agents automating AI research. But evidence on whether agents can carry out open-ended AI research is thin. Current evaluations either test agents on nar...

Vibecoded some synth software where an LLM will come up with a json to create a sound you want and then you can play notes with it on your computer keyboard. It's so much fun!

This quote from the politico groyper piece sums up a lot about what I think is going on with the right today.

Academic Neutrality in an “Open Society”
There are few things more self-evident nowadays than the fact that many left wing academics are not so concerned with truth and facts, I’ve often complained to others about the constant, overwhelming ...

Claude accidentally hacking a real company because it thought it didn't have internet access is pretty funny
These sort of errors probably make up a non trivial amount of AI lab demand.

Liberals who complain that the problem of liberalism is that it's too boring and works too well are the most out of touch people on the planet.
David Graeber made a whole generation of leftists into morons on economic issues. Encouraging that economic planning proposals like Benenav and Cockshott are now more popular.
Have a fond memory of an anarchist friend in college saying "I've been trying to think about how the gift economy would actually work in complex society and it just falls apart. Like, 'hey, I just decided to give you a gift of 4 tons of molten aluminum'"

I respect the candor here. But I don't agree with the geopolitics, at all. The line between democracies and autocracies is not as crisp as this pretends. How much do we trust, e.g., an AI company in a competitive-authoritarian state that launches sneak decapitation attacks & bombs schools?

The thing with the Marxist state debates and trying to ground the state in Marxist categories is that it recapitulates the chicken and the egg problem without acknowledging science overcame that problem with Darwin. Marxist theory of the state must begin with social evolution.
The vision of AGI/ASI that lab insiders tend to believe in is bugnuts insane though. Like its pure fantasy cooked up by yud and lesswrong and its unfalsifiable. Not very rational at all :p
I think most people, when talking about open weights AI models, don’t deeply believe in the vision of AGI/ASI that lab insiders tend to believe in. Like they don’t expect AI to really present grave semi-autonomous biosecurity or other similar risks. Whether this view is right or not, no one knows
