here's another throwback from 2016 a private poster commission inspired by Moby Dick honestly still really love this one, both the concept and execution i worked on pre-inked scratchboard for this one (so fully black) instead of the usual white claybord that i ink myself 30x40cm

I was having a cool dream, woke up bummed because I wanted to go back, took me about half an hour to fall back asleep BUT somehow managed to pick up my dream where I left off and I didn't know that was possible, feels like ive unlocked a forbidden skill

one thing i really like about medieval art is that unlike later renaissance and neo-classical art even moreso, they were not concerned with "historical accuracy" would just illustrate stories with contemporary settings, fashion and architecture, as these Odyssey illustrations show

The Odyssey by N.C. Wyeth (1929) hard to find good quality photos/scans of these but I like this looser, more impressionist Wyeth

one of my favorite books as a kid (as my broken and battered copy can attest) the Iliad and the Odyssey (with a bit of the aenid too) illustrated by Alice and Martin Provensen
