Writes and translates books and comics. They’re pretty cool.
Lots of fun things happening today! - Possibly Count Binface being elected - People being confused about why their eyes hurt after the eclipse yesterday - A certain fantasy book releasing...
Solar eclipse today! Remember not to invade the Fire Nation without your protective goggles!
Yes please and thank you!
Team Magik (@ashallen.bsky.social & German Peralta) will be back at it in November with X-ORCISTS (great name!) in which Magik, her work husband JUGGERNAUT and the Golbin Queen herself, MADELYNE PRYOR, team up to repel a demonic invasion. Deets below:
A short story: “Hey, friend,” said one guy, “do you know where Chekhov’s gun is? I can’t find it.” “Hm?” replied the other guy. “Oh, that old thing? I pawned it a while back. Didn’t think we were ever going to use it anyway.” The End
Saw a thing going around about how women read male authors, but men'll refuse to read female ones. I figured, don't know the statistics, but at least that's not true for me.. and checked my Goodreads. That's when I realized I'm "currently reading" SIX books by female authors. Yikes. Bit much maybe?
First game I’ve bought in a while, and feeling a strange urge to point out that it is one I’d never be able to play if not for physical media and actual ownership. Dunno why. Weird. (@unrequitedpud.bsky.social, I got it!)
While I'm not lining up to buy new works by Ellis, I couldn't skip these collections--for my money, this era was where modern superheroes started. There's just something that feels different from classic superheroes in the way...
I finally caved. I just wasn't interested in (the Netflix live-action adaptation of) Avatar: The Last Airbender. But now I've started watching (YouTube takedowns of the show). It's really making me want to rewatch the original, one of the greatest shows of all time. (And just ignore the adaptation.)
After about a month of staying locked inside and snack-fooding my way to successfully making a deadline, I really need to reset and get back to some healthy living. But… after the weekend probably, yes?

If your news article about the World Cup being sold off to private equity funds is mostly concerned with wondering why we're making such a fuss about it since so many other things are owned by private equity... then I'm just gonna assume your new organisation is owned by private equity.
Recently in book news: - AI has begun actively destroying the books it steals from. - A football player has bought a 400+ year old book and donated it to a museum. I remember a time when we nerds felt like we were the good guys in the eternal war between Nerd and Jock. Now I'm ready to surrender.
Kickstarter fulfilled only six years and two months late! ...It's so hard to know whether to be pissy or impressed that they did, in fact, stick with it.
Weird sci-fi conspiracy #comics are really the most fun you can have without having a clue of what's going on. That's my conclusion upon finishing Dresden Codak's Dark Science vol.1, at least. Also, weird sci-fi but painfully realistic near-future predictions:
I get so many comics read when I'm close to a deadline! ...It's almost like I've worked real hard and now my ability to concentrate is shot or something.
Remember when commercials were jingles that *everyone* knew? These days, I get them mostly on YouTube and they feel so low effort that I vow to actively avoid those brands. There's a backpack company trying hard to convince me that Big Backpack is trying to keep their innovations down...
As someone who loves comic book pages with way too many panels, I’m quite enjoying going back to Dresden Kodak.
Werkelijkheid, ga weg! #stikstof #mestoverschot
Esther Loohuis (Twentse Trotse Boeren): „Er is geen stikstofprobleem. Maar de politiek blijft dat maar herhalen. En de media ook. Dan gaan de burgers het vanzelf geloven.” www.tubantia.nl/enschede/gro... Geklets. Waarom interviewen kranten geen boeren die snappen dat de emissies fors omlaag moeten?
27 minutes. That's genuinely the only thing that interested me about this americanized halftime show. That's twelve extra minutes of FIFA breaking its own rules for that sweet $$$. (No, I didn't watch, just have a liveblog open to see the score.)
I had no idea Dutch soap opera GTST was still on the air! 36 seasons. I have fond memories of seeing some melodramatic cliffhangers because I turned on the TV early for the show that was on after. 😄 www.nu.nl/film/6403346...

Fellow authors: without any context, what's the first line of your current WIP? “Truly, love is a curse,” [character 1] said. “I don’t think that’s love,” [character 2] said. (By "current" I mean I can't wait to get back to it post work deadline. Also it's a more uplifting story than it sounds.)
Fellow authors: without any context, what's the first line of your current WIP? "Yasha made a promise to the dying girl in the tower, and fled into the fever-twisted wasteland, wishing she was the sort of woman who kept her promises."
Sometimes it can be hard to justify ordering these giant graphic novel collections when the to-read pile is already so high... but if it arrives and you immediately drop everything you are reading/were planning to read to dive into this new one? Probably made the right call.
Me chowing down on snack food and caffeine while under deadline, every time: "I need this for energy to make it through, I'll watch my diet again after." Me chowing down on snack food and caffeine post-deadline, every time: "Screw it, I want to have energy to do fun things, too!"
"Marvel faces many challenges in getting its groove back, the first of which is admitting they need to get their groove back." Probably the best quote yet about Marvel getting a new Editor in Chief and a move from New York to California. www.comicsbeat.com/new-office-n...
New office, new Wacker: Looking at Marvel's Big Changes
Yet another day of change for Marvel Comics, and here's some background and speculation on their move and new editor in chief

You can now officially order Book 1 from any major book or comic shop. Fun! Maybe your library should have a copy? More fun, you can leave long, crazed reviews on B&N or Amazon about the child-sacrificing, titty-ripping, naked zombies, fascist heroes, glorification of gang violence. Warn strangers?
