Tip for level designers: Get one of these, go to a cafe, and relax. Many of my best level design ideas existed on paper first. Tip for notepad manufacturers: Many level designers would be excited about hexagon patterns instead of square grids.

Today's non-frustrating Linux experience: VCV Rack just... works. The best music software of them all. On my potato. I'm ready to travel to Finland doing bleeps and bloops.

I'm gonna do a fresh reinstall Linux on my potato PC I'm currently running Mint with a badly functional KDE Plasma (random stuff doesn't work) slapped on top when an installation broke Cinnamon What should I try this time? Pop!_OS maybe? Tips? I really need something that just works.

Whenever there are any sort of rules regarding ai, I beg, include a definition. Are we talking 2020s ai boom stable diffusion/LLM-like stuff, or does any tiny specialized 00s/early 10s neural network with no stolen data & minimal resource use count?

I was playing Meccha Chameleon last Saturday (was it Sunday?) still thinking about a hiding spot I picked on a custom Borderlands level (don't worry, I didn't play any infected level) Nobody found me.

A screenshot of Meccha Chameleon. Tiny Tina from Borderlands is standing in front of a workbench, while holding a gun.Exactly the same as the previous image, except the camera angle is viewing from a different angle. I now have 27 likes instead of 19 (because it's the end of the round)

In my game Rhythm Doggo, when a NPC dog should jump from a platform to another, it calculates exactly which jump strength it should have to land at the correct spot given the position, velocity and acceleration That code worked perfectly. Selecting which side of the platform to jump from did not

I think I did it! The legendary "big modification to the internals of the game's architecture" that affected over 90 files and I got it right on first try with no errors! (tho imma play through the entire game just to make sure)

Today I need to figure out how to display an arbitrary duration of time, make it work with localization, and keep the format short Anyone has experience in this?

I realized, one of my games were lost to time when I removed my old bluesky account. I figured out how to embed a game directly into Bluesky, an asteroids clone set in an universe where time doesn't exist. Now I'm releasing the remake! You can play it right here:

It's the game Asteroids but everything is frozen in time. At the bottom, text says Time: 0, Score: 0

Anyone know an algorithm to calculate an infinitely rising sequence of positive numbers where you can always add any up to to X different numbers from the sequence and not hit any other number in it? The less exponential the algorithm is, the better

Waiting for my train. I don't know where all the time went, feels like I've only been in this town two hours Can recommend getting on a train randomly checking a place out. It's good for the soul

A sunny beach in the evening. My dog, Hotdog's face is in the picture too. She looks relaxed

been optimizing my level file format but things are too big still Going to make a new version of my Hotdog format today that stores identical strings only once and references them with an integer that should make things small

I did something wrong when converting from LDtk to my own level format (it'll be fixed soon) but behold, one of the most beautiful glitches I've ever produced

I'm dealing with some other frameworks right now and... I'm not saying this as a statement of truth, ok? Just a personal preference but I HATE dynamic typing! I wish so much it didn't exist

I'm so confused, my custom Hotdog serialization system appears to work perfectly with nullable value types like int? but I have zero memory of making it work with that, and I can't find code explicitly designed to make it work. It just somehow works?

Finally started this thing I've been holding off for a year. A converter of the level format. LDtk (json) to Hotdog (my own format I use for everything) I thought this was gonna take a week, but I'm 3 hours in and halfway done

I'm still improving my game's Easy mode, it takes a lot of work to do that in 2D platformers when there are no damage modifiers, but involve changing the level design. Easy isn't a lesser way to play a game, and Hard isn't a greater - the best way is for everyone to decide for themselves

Ok so genuinely this game is amazing and you should go play the demo/wishlist immediately. I've tried to learn to make music a couple times and could not wrap my head around all the options. This game teaches you! It feeds you little bits so it's not overwhelming while you learn! Also WHAT?!

All the music you make in this game belongs to you. Use it for whatever you want. It's yours to keep.
