Its all about control. These childfucking nazi shitheads want to cut away venues to organize against them. No criticism allowed, no education allowed. The internet is great for both, so to them, it must go.

Mike Lee's SCREEN Act, which heads to Senate Commerce Committee for markup on Wednesday, would expand age verification requirements to a nearly limitless scope of websites, and is supported by the architects of Project 2025.

This is basically the same thing that happened during prohibition. Organized crime imported alcohol from bordering countries. It also happened when the first automobile emissions standards were imposed, as foreign-manufactured cars were exempt for some reason.

Great work by @alisonboden.bsky.social: “In each state and country age-verification measures have been enacted, our member platforms have invested considerable resources to comply with the laws, only to lose their customers to noncompliant foreign sites"

“Unlike KOSA and many of the other age verification laws that have spread across the country, the SCREEN Act does not have bipartisan support. It’s the latest in Lee’s repeated attempts to criminalize content he and his co-sponsors personally consider immoral.”

The SCREEN Act is a Christian Nationalist Nightmare

Luck dragons are powerful beings that can do pretty much anything they believe hard enough they can do, like fly for example. However, Panini's confidence is so low, and her anxiety so crippling, she can just about manage to hover pathetically along the ground.

And for the really bad news? They've put a target on VPNs. Sites are required to identify (and age-verify) any US citizen, regardless of whether they're using a VPN. In fact, the default is to get the ID and biometrics of EVERYONE unless you can somehow prove their not a US citizen.

"VPNs are a privacy and security tool used by millions of internet users every day, and their use should not be treated as suspect. It is particularly galling that the SCREEN Act forces users who intentionally take steps to protect their privacy to identify themselves."

The SCREEN Act is not just another age-verification bill — it goes much further than anything passed at the state-level or in other countries. 1. The bill doesn't just target porn sites. It goes after *any* site that allows material "harmful" to minors. You'd have to scan your face to use Google.

anyway, shout out the dude smoking cigs through a jesus-themed face mask and wearing a jesus-themed hoodie, who insisted that "sports physicals" for kids are a normal thing, bro you really clarified the fact that rural Christian communities are hotbeds of child abuse under cover of weird policies

the lesson is clear: absolutely refuse to debate the bullshit upstream hypotheticals about who is or isn't what gender, and only ever "debate" the actual policy fix because they don't have one, the only possible policies are abuse nightmares, and it they get flustered and embarrassed discussing it

the real risk of child sexual abuse isn't trans people using the restrooms or locker rooms that reflect their genders, it's coaches and teachers and youth pastors who you want to give a legitimate reason to be inspecting their genitals in the name of oppressing people who aren't hurting anyone
