When your dad dies people are great at saying “let me know if there’s *anything* I can do to help,” but then they get weird when you ask if they happen to be a necromancer.

Anyone in Minneapolis have therapist recs? I like the one I went to most recently, but might switch it up as I work through grief re: my dad. Looking for: someone who is queer (and queer positive), not new agey, and that can deal with a girl who has read way too much existentialist philosophy.

The treatment Darley Herrera has received from the @cityofmpls.bsky.social is appalling. The fact that this worker was fired for zero cause and has been put in a tenuous financial position AFTER Operation Metro Surge is disguting. Our workers deserve better. www.startribune.com/immigration-...

Immigration services misspelled his name. Then Minneapolis fired him.

The termination of Public Works employee Darley Herrera has driven a wedge between city hall and the Laborers Union.

Fucked up fact that if you’re doing life right, bad things still happen—you just have more people who show up for you afterward. Seems like small consolation, but living it, it’s a big deal.

My dad, Steve Mitchell, died yesterday after a rapid deterioration led to an ER visit on Thursday, and a hospital stay to treat a newly discovered brain tumor that ended suddenly due to a hemorrhage. He was 74, a retired high school social studies teacher, an artist, and a skilled curmudgeon. 1/4

Boarding a last minute flight, things got backed up and I ended up watching a man in first class scrolling and scrolling on Facebook only to stop when a shitty AI ad for golf balls came up—which he then stared at for like 30 seconds. These are the guys who “worked hard to get where they are.”

What do we owe each other when it comes to mispronouncing words? I'm talking legit mispronunciation—not accent/dialect differences. People want to know when that happens, right? Like, same way you'd want to know if there's toilet paper on your shoe, right?

I don’t know how transphobia can exist when the fact that having/not having boobs can make someone sad is such a perfect distillation of the absurdity of the human condition, and the fact that we’ve learned how to add/remove breasts as a result is such a perfect distillation of human compassion.

Meta when you want to give them information: Right this way, ma’am. Could we interest you in an ad or 10? Meta when you want to delete information (posts): LOL, how does delete work? Clicky clicky? No, no—too easy.

Sapphics learning that men’s testosterone levels have been steadily declining over the last 50 years: Oh no. That’s horrible… What will we ever do when the men are all soft and pretty?

Got slammed into consciousness this morning by my partner telling me, in a dream, that she had been watching The Pitt without me. Dream logic dictated this was a divorce-level betrayal.

Saw a weird, bearded, topless, mountain man on the Cedar Lake trail by the stadium tonight, and became immediately jealous of his ability to roll around topless on such a gorgeous evening.

Their America: Driving a large SUV 20 minutes to the chain grocery store to buy second-rate jarred salsa and sad chips for “couples game night.” My America: Riding a Dutch bike 2 blocks to a Mexican market to get three different fresh salsas, chips, and guacamole to feed my gay-ass tabletop group.

Nissa’s Dutch bike (Gazelle Tour Populair), with her Clarijs panniers loaded down with more chips and salsa than a family could eat in a week, posed in front of La Casa Market in South Minneapolis. The image is evocative of the American dream, and its necessarily socialistic and pluralistic approach to living a good life.

“Wait until uptown comes back” bro, what if the safer infrastructure and new bike lane on Lyndale is what does it? People like to go places where it’s enjoyable to be, and that usually involves building for humans, not cars.

hennepin ave business owner says only 3% of the population bikes for commuting. “i’m pro bike. i’m pro safety. i ride every week. but i’m a business guy.” says we need to pause lyndale ave a couple years until uptown comes back, then do the construction

Everyone knows that riding a bike for transportation makes you cooler and hotter that other people. And, after repeated tests, I can now confidently state that riding a *Dutch bike* for transportation increases the effect by at least 2x.

I’m very worried that well-meaning millennials are raising the most insufferable generation yet due to the irrational fear that setting limits and giving constructive age-appropriate feedback is somehow abusive.

My dad taught me all sorts of stuff most people—especially women—don’t get taught, and I am very handy as a result. Sadly, he did not warn me that being handy is curse, and dooms you to a life of doing things you don’t want to do and that other people blithely pay someone else to do.
