🧪Thrilled to see our paper highlighted by PAIN. Thank you! For many patients, chronic pain is not only about intensity, but also about the feeling that pain is taking over and eroding their sense of self. We hope this work helps inform more person-centred interventions for #chronicpain management.

@nkytang.bsky.social et al.’s network models reveal how mental defeat dynamically shapes daily pain experiences by increasing attention to pain and perceived impact on routine, relationships, self-identity, and future. Learn more in #PAIN bit.ly/4wdf1kC

Delighted to see such a strong turnout at today’s @warwickpsych.bsky.social Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Group meeting. We enjoyed two excellent talks— John Galvin on self-compassion in autism and Gitit Kadar-Satat on student employability. A great way to spend a warm summer afternoon. ☀️👏

“With a liberal non-inferiority margin, amitriptyline is non-inferior…in reducing insomnia severity. Amitriptyline has more side effects & its effect on insomnia may diminish after tapering. [CBT-I]should remain first-line treatment for patients with medical comorbidity given its broader benefits.”

Grateful for the opportunity to talk about our lab's research on mental defeat in chronic pain this morning on BBC Radio 4. An exciting (if slightly nerve‑wracking!) way to wrap up the week.

My department is moving to a new building. Last day in my soon-to-be -old office, taking a good look at the long windowless corridor, defunct letter boxes, 60s spiral stairwell and the Japanese garden.

Welcome to Professor Glenn Waller, who has joined our department. His work focuses on the processes that underlie and maintain eating disorders, how to treat eating disorders with cognitive-behavioural approaches, and how to translate evidence-based approaches into real-life clinical settings. 1/2
