The real thing about this piece is the banal Orientalism. Shuster simply does not apply the same logic to China that he applies to the US or Taiwan because he is wowed by the historical grandeur of the CCP. A part of me is amazed we still have writing like this in the year 2026

I’m NOT saying Chinese perspectives should be discounted if they don’t align with x, y, or z, but Chinese people are every bit as capable of being wrong about their own country as anyone else. Ask a random American or Briton about woke! You might get a great answer, but your odds are not excellent.
