Well kids, it's my last #Hauntalong of the year, and since Halloween is only days away, we have to end on a real treat of a film. Blood, brains, and the occasional butt, they're all here--what good is a Halloween without these things? My treat to you tricks: Brain Damage.

Happy #hauntalong! Today I'm recommending Slaxx (2020), a Canadian horror comedy about a pair of jeans that come to life and murders employees at a trendy clothing store. Yes. Killer jeans. That's the movie. It’s really silly and really fun.

“My story's not like a movie. It’s not heartstopping or intense or bloodcurdling or graphic or violent. No jump scares. To me, these qualities aren’t scary. Something that disorients, that unsettles what’s taken for granted, something that disturbs and disrupts reality-that’s scary.” -Iain Reid

My last couple #hauntalong entries have been pretty heavy, so this week I'm gonna get back to basics with some proper "Halloween Horror" picks as the holiday fast approaches. I know Haunt-A-Long tends to favor lesser known picks, but this week we revisit a classic. One by one, they will take you...

Title card for "The Evil Dead" (1981)

The Haunt-Along continues with Annihilation, Alex Garland's 2018 sci-fi/horror movie loosely based on the 2014 novel by Jeff VanderMeer. It's as beautiful as it is vicious, and I strongly strongly recommend (tho I have to say, the book is even better. go read it if you haven't!!)

The theatrical poster for Annihilation, featuring the title at the bottom and "Natalie Portman" at the top. The image is 5 women, some with guns, surrounded by a dark forest and illuminated by a shimmering light.

Time for another #hauntalong Ann Biller’s Love Witch (2016), a horror comedy and love letter to the 1960's about Elaine, a modern witch, who fled San Francisco for a small town in the redwoods when things got too hot. Unfortunately, she falls once more into her femme fatale ways.

Haunt-Along 2026 An annual tradition collecting a thread about a horror movie each day through the month of October. Find 'em all here. 🐈‍⬛

One of my favorite genre tropes is also one of the most relatable: the strange and unusual as benign in the face of real, human evil. This week’s #hauntalong pick is one of the earliest examples of that in cinema. Tonight, we celebrate the freaks. Tod Browning’s “Freaks” in particular.

Time for another #hauntalong recommendation! This time it’s Mark Mylod’s The Menu (2022), a horror comedy about a group of extremely wealthy people who travel to a private island for an exclusive tasting menu. Since this is a horror movie, you can imagine dinner does not go as expected.

Another year, another #hauntalong. This year feels like hell for a lot of us, figuratively and literally--where I am, we're being ravaged by heatwaves in October and rising costs of living thanks to the greed of men. Hell is full, and the devils are here. Specifically, Ken Russell's "The Devils".

Thank you for all the shares and reposts. We're trying to scrape every dime together to get ready for this move. I'm currently having to attend jury duty selection, so I may lose work shifts this week and next. I also haven't received payouts for game profits. Any share or contribution helps.

Last year, a bunch of you helped Bran and I get out of a terrible living situation, heading to the first stage of us getting out of Washington DC. We're ready for Stage 2: Move to New Orleans. We updated the #GoFundMe page with new info and where the rest of the money we're raising will be going.

Time for another #hauntalong recommendation! Today I’m recommending Vincenzo Natali’s Cube (1997), a Canadian sci-fi horror movie about a group of strangers who wake up inside a giant maze of identical rooms. Some of the rooms are safe. Some of them are super not safe.

The leaves are changing, the skies are gray, and that can only mean one thing: Haunt-Along! My first Haunt-Along pick is Saint Maud, a delightfully unsettling piece of religious horror from director Rose Glass. It's about loneliness, faith, guilt, and a little bit of murder.

A close-up shot of two women's faces close to one another. One woman is reclining, and the other stands over her, a hand on her face, dimly lit by a warm light from offscreen.
