Jeeeeze, Doly Begum jumping ship is a big get for the federal Libs and a real oof for ONDP; Begum is the key reason that ONDP held that seat. Not sure they can keep it without her. Also speaks to Carney's strength; he's now pulling floor crossers from right AND left.

Busy day in Ontario politics: NDP deputy leader Doly Begum resigns to run federally for federal Liberals (oof for Marit Stiles, big oof); Nate Erskine-Smith announces he'll run in the by-election to replace Begum in the provincial legislature and will contest the Ontario Liberal leadership race.

We're willing to marshal our resources to support an OLP leader who will put people before politics. We need someone willing to make a one-time deal with the NDP and Greens to defeat Doug Ford. Think it's pointless because NDP won't make a deal? Guess again. #onpoli #olp

How can Cooperation work if the NDP won't Cooperate?

Step 1. The Liberals and Greens work together and make an attractive, genuine, good faith off to the NDP.

Arrows branch off. The first arrow points to NDP AGREES. Best Case Scenario. Everyone works together. This leads to an image of Doug Ford with a red X over him.

The other arrow points to NDP DISAGREES. On to Plan B.

Step 2: Publicize the offer of cooperation. The details leak.

Step 3: The Liberals and Greens work together. The bad publicity depresses the NDP vote so the vote does not split in as many ridings

This leads to the same picture of Doug Ford with a red X over him.

Hey NDP! This also works if YOU offer to cooperate first.

Can't wait until the next election? Neither can we.

I drive. Not a lot. Mostly to get out of the city. But this mini-thread is bang on. With this cut and the fact we're still not paying plate fees means that drivers are some of the biggest freeloaders going.

Great episode of Onpoli with @jm-mcgrath.bsky.social, @spaikin.bsky.social, and @jessiecatherine.bsky.social on the Provincial budget. My biggest takeaway is scrapping the gas tax will cost $1.3B annually. Huge break for motorists, big blow to everyone else: podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/o...

One thing that I was thought was revealing about the divisions within Canada: When Carney acknowledged Poilievre's hard work on his campaign in his victory speed, the crowd of Liberals cheered. When Poilievre mentioned Carney in his concession speech, there was loud booing.

Carney didn’t shut the door on proportional representation—a shift that shows our advocacy is working. But Singh is right: progress takes pressure. The NDP says they support PR. It’s time they act like it—and make it a condition of support for a minority government. #cdnpoli

Screenshot of a news article by Bryann Aguilar from CTV News. It quotes Singh saying, "Never trust a Liberal," and that Liberals only act when New Democrats force them. Carney is quoted saying electoral reform could be addressed once the economic crisis is over, and that a Prime Minister should remain neutral on the issue. Singh emphasizes his support for proportional representation where every vote is reflected directly in Parliament.
