Today's find - there was a Religious Census of 1851 - which looked to find out how well attended different churches were on a specific day in March that year & a general average for the preceding 12 months Here are Nottinghamshire's results: www.nottshistory.org.uk/resources/fi... #OnePlaceStudies

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing @gwentarchives.bsky.social Matron Isabella Liddle set up a Linen League at Nottingham General Hospital in the 1920s, having worked at the General and Eye Hospital in Swansea. This is a preview, research article in progress.

Before the introduction of the National Health Service in 1948, local hospitals were funded by subscriptions and voluntary contributions from individuals and local organisations. In 1922, the Abertillery & District Hospital Linen League was set up by local women to offer their help to the hospital.

Grade 2 listed Ripon Workhouse Museum, N. Yorks which dates from 1854 has fixed its leaky roof, rotten windows, revamped rooms & opened up the original workhouse cellar for the first time since 1930, after receiving a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. 👇 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Countess Lucy Baldwin made a real impact on Worcestershire mothers and babies. Lucy was a passionate campaigner for safer maternity conditions, and gave many public lectures about safer motherhood. In 1929, her husband Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin opened a Maternity Home in Stourport. 1/5

St. Mary's Parish Church, High Pavement, Nottingham where the building started in 1386 & was completed in 1475. It was built in Perpendicular style made from ashlar & lead roofs & was the town's largest building. During the Civil War much of the stained glass windows & memorial brasses were lost. /1
