I've been at screenings where audience randos would be pitching alternate endings to the director and refusing to surrender the mic and the movie's already made, my dude, do you really think they're going to make it again to try it your way and be like WHOAH Brad was truly the genius all along?
if I ever taught film criticism lesson one would be “you being smarter than the movie is not interesting to anyone”
7 years ago I wasn't as consistent with voiceprints or careful about gain levels; but I still love this goofy-ass audiobook short where some of the worst people on Earth drop acid after crashing on the moon & meet a sixth-dimensional alien who loves bourbon brickmoonentertainment.com/2019/07/23/e...

I realized yesterday that I will be a former California resident before California finishes the 55 freeway expansion project and I'm like 30% mad I won't get to make use of the outcome after all the years of construction traffic.

Peeps attending Gen Con! Several friends worked together on this very cute & silly short film, "Ride Scare," which will be playing at the film festival. I am told the screening block is already fully-reserved, but maybe with some ingenuity you can find a seat :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzOK...

At one of the SAG Foundation's VO booths. I finished recording my audition but I have ten minutes left in my booking and it's so nice and quiet in here. Good for the nerves when my future holds crosstown traffic in it.
RIP Glen Hansard. "Once" will always be one of the movies' most extraordinary expressions of the power inside a single person with a guitar and something in their heart that needs to get out. www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8mt...

Finished reading a book on camera technique and honestly one of the best tips was, if you're pursuing acting as a profession, make it a job requirement to perform three outreaches a day. New queries, requests for catch-up coffees, check out someone's new thing & congratulate them on it. Keep track.
New thing alert! The microbudget indie feature "Cell" is now on YouTube. This ensemble drama observes a series of characters across decades who take part in a psychological experiment for an unseen organization that locks them up with strangers to test how the clash of personalities will unfold.
Most niche complaint but seems like 90% of brewery tasting rooms in O.C. & L.A. went all in on hard seltzer as their designated "Not Beer" option and Team Cider really abandoned me on the battlefield here. Still those couple of golden spots in NoHo that serve mead, though. I see you.
Watching "The Heroic Trio" and you're telling me there's no beloved spinoff comic of Thief Catcher that turns into an animated series? Because she somehow just enters the movie with that energy.
Seeing a lot of coverage of the stunt performers from "The Odyssey" and even though the Academy Award for Stunt Design won't be introduced until the next Oscar cycle I do think there's a connection as studio publicists test how to get ink for a contender. Richly deserved as stunties rule.
What I love about Mann's '06 "Miami Vice" movie is that all the exposition is right there, and follows a fairly normal interplay between incident, plot, & character beats, but immersed in so many layers of tradecraft and a style drunk on its surroundings that you have to follow it into its world.

My friend and I agree that the "S'il vous plait" makes me much more determined to squeeze them.
I've seen stuff at film festivals that would make you cry blood, but for a movie released wide in theatres that I bought a ticket to see, I'll never heal from "Celtic Pride," the "wacky" "comedy" where two "lovable" Celtics fans kidnap the star player for the Utah Jazz.

Fun, candid breakdown of how a filmmaker can be forced into a no-win situation and have to shrug it off and get back to work. I stan Rachel Talalay for helming some of the greatest episodes of Peter Capaldi's "Doctor Who" run, and we'd all benefit if more filmmakers were willing to own the foul-ups.

Exciting meeting this morning, may lead to some short-form writing/directing. For good karma, sharing the time I got to direct Emmy-winning "NCIS"/"Hill Street Blues" star Joe Spano, who played a scene for a friend's demo reel as a favor. I "directed" mostly by staying back and letting the man cook.
A friend has acted in multiple Asylum films and I auditioned for "Tomb Invader," "Ghost Busting," "Arctic Armageddon," "Ice Shark," "Ape vs. Mecha-Ape" and "Jurassic Island" and I knew what quality level to expect but I would have shown up, done my best and had as good a time doing it as I could.
I don't know that I'm coining "sloppycats" as a term with this piece but I believe we're going to be seeing a lot of them www.avclub.com/ai-rip-off-f...

I've always considered Timothy Dalton to be the most underrated Bond and wish we'd had another movie or two from him, but if the producers had picked Sam Neill after Roger Moore instead they would not have regretted it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozo-...

"Miss Piggy Thirsts for the Guest Star" was always a reliable "Muppet Show" bit but I don't know if anyone ever handled it with more charm than Christopher Reeve. He's so gracefully silly while she is all but begging for a restraining order. www.youtube.com/watch?v=amuc...

My friend is an archery instructor and gave me a discount for a one-hour introductory course. This was my final grouping, target about 50 feet away. Any Orc standing still on that spot is hosed.
I'd say this resembles a classic "Dr. Who" monster except that it probably cost more than their usual creature budget.
alright I'm sick of reading about platner let's get back to what matters
