I should change my pfp to George R Binks some time
A man of few words
@nuthinbut.bsky.social
"We're not behind the times! We're groovy!"
I don't think the ATACMs and prsm were supposed to be especially deep parts of the system but I doubt they anonymously said this because they want the world to know how well-led by non-morons they are and how it's all going great.
EXCLUSIVE: US has used 'virtually all' of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war, sources say reut.rs/4gc28C0
Christian and 'new' atheism discusses missed - maybe no more than a little rhetorical flourish, but I thought it was worth thinking about - was firm agreement that this is the world without God; that's the story of the Fall and being driven out of God's presence.
r/atheism was like 75% correct and 25% incorrect at worst btw.
Good lord I wish some of you could read on this text based social media website.
Bluesky's new CEO Toni Schneider on the platform's reputation for being a liberal bubble: "Yes, we definitely want that to change. It is already changing. It certainly wasn’t designed to attract one specific group of people."
Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right
I think this is a bit and a good one and I wouldn't be sorry to see it on bsky
incredible
My literary one is 'was Hethor indeed the first Epitome of Urth, who caused the rebuke of the Heirodules (the worm in the heart of the sun) and lives on as its avatar of it, and by his mirrors brings forth it's monsters, drawn to try to consume the New Sun? Or just a weird guy?'
What's your personal great white whale of an unsolved mystery? The thing you desperately hope is solved before you die because you need to know the answer? Mine is the Isabella Stewart Gardener Museum heist. Where the hell are the Rembrandts. I need the full story
I don't think this is most of the problem (?), but the cost-benefit for far-right sock-puppeting as leftists or women or trans people and behaving despicably towards Will Stancil is very high. They slander Will to a labile audience and they damage the brand of abuse allegations and claims of harm.
Jerry Seinfeld's mother enters my body "How can anybody not like you!?"
They’re literally an endangered species! Their population in the wild is dwindling. Roughly equivalent to shooting a Siberian tiger :(
This is a fucked thing to do to someone as upstanding as Will for upstanding, and really says a lot about certain diseased societies, some of them present here. It's a war on integrity, on behalf of ideology, by someone on Jesse Watters moral level.
Well some nutjob of some description definitely thought they were doing something hardcore here
I can't think when it's been clearer that media (& other) systems organised in hierarchies that plug into the very rich at the top are working to comfort, cover up for and flatter their bosses, not do a good job.
It’s completely nuts that Trump won by less than 2M votes with near universal media help and worldwide rage at incumbents and the media treated this like a permanent sea change towards MAGA and now less than 2 years later he’s the least popular President in history and there’s no media reckoning
“Will Stancil is a Sea Lion” is a postulate that people don’t actually believe, as evidenced by their mode of interacting will him
Will posted a question to his own timeline. If the concern is that he’s detracting from more important discourse, why would Kat Abu then repost that distraction to her many followers
Will is correct. People are beside themselves because if correctness is important, they might have to adjust their worldview 10% and acknowledge some of their failures are their fault.
What’s happened is that each deranged pile-on justifies itself by pointing to the earlier pile-ons and saying “Yeah, but this guy has said so much awful stuff, he deserves it” - except the earlier pile-ons were the EXACT SAME THING. There was nothing I ever said that was particularly crazy or bad!
I’ve said this before, but I am rougly 1000 times more worried about what humans will do with AI than I am about Skynet fantasies of AI off the leash mashing up humanity to extrude paperclips.
I have been having this conversation with regulators and emphasize this point. Worries about AI alignment need to be matched with equal concern about aligning the incentives of people using AI (to make important decisions that affect others’ lives) by requiring human responsibility to be legible.
I feel excited about Neuromancer but worried it mightn't have the shabbiness it should. Case and Armitage and even to some extent Molly (and almost everyone else) are bedraggled and woebegone trying to keep afloat financially and psychologically and they're used to losing.
I think the Phones and the shape of our addictability are key. But the acquiescence of the rich, their willingness to see society, democratic self-government, internationalism as things to dismantle for fear of taxation, regulation, and anything in the way of their power, is worse at the moment.
It’s the phones. open.substack.com/pub/stancilc...
I can't think of any deal to open the strait that doesn't start 'Trump is removed in a meaningful way that establishes that the US is once again able to make deals; it's no longer conducting itself as a cracked out weasel country.'
I notice this most on the For You feed, if I check it all through the day. It's really a recent highlights feed.
man this place is so dead. can't you feel it? log on every night and it's the same five people arguing over the same five things, forever
These numbers are fake, not that anyone on Bluesky cares about that, apparently
chart for dinner
'The Paradox Men' & 'stars my destination' for me please.
Superheroes are dead now, so Hollywood has no choice but to stage incredibly elaborate adaptations of unfilmable science fiction classics. The masses need The Book of the New Sun!
Tfw mothra gave you power of attorney
Will Will Stancil ever give up his correctness to get rid of the jealousy that plagues his career? www.harkavagrant.com/index.php?id...

You know George Costanza is taking the $50k. Mr 'I can't live knowing Ted Danson makes $800,000 an episode" and "I should have known God would never let me be successful." But he's also going to regret not taking the chance just as bitterly.
Yes, this is obviously why the question was polled - "Will people take the terrible, terrible risk-averse option" - but Bluesky refuses to admit that this is actually irrational behavior. It is contorting itself in knots to somehow prove that 5 > 50
It won’t stop at math. Machines getting better at thinking through abstract problems than we are is going to be an emotional crisis for lots of people. I wish we were engaging that directly instead of having ridiculous shadow-debates about GPUs’ inherent thirst for water.
Very worried about this sort of thing hitting more broadly:
This is a really good point. There are for sure a lot of possibilities for even more 'ethical' use of weapons when they are very aware and completely disposable; viz the Ukrainian efforts to hit Russian soldiers and spare the horses they ride. Many such cases.
Obviously it would be very bad if a fully autonomous drone decided to stalk and kill a senior citizen or an aid vehicle…but I mean, also, 100% manually piloted drones are doing those things every day, right now. We should really be addressing both of these problems!
If your dad enjoyed 'Rumpole of the Bailey' as mine did, discovering belatedly that the UK prisons minister is a Timpson is fun.
I would be interested to see this for Australia. I spoke with an Army office in 2019 who was both very disappointed both by Australia's non-competitive industrial base, and that I voted for Labor who had costed policies for restoring it, over the LNP who let auto manufacturing and more die.
bruh
I really liked 'Community Notes' and I feel that the "AI browser" we need is one that adds Community Notes to web page content. You don't age restrict pornography, you just have to read a lot of community notes about it and where you are finding it, it's role and impact on the rest of your real life
