Took a decade, but Euros are finally standing in the doorway and drumming their fingers on the frame. I still think there’s time for them to say, “Oh thank God” and come back into the room, but that window *is* closing. Tremendous work on our part, top shelf, no notes.

@nutedawn.bsky.social is 1000% correct. I eavesdropped over lunch today on an elderly couple as they agreed (1) they won’t vote for Vance because they don’t like him, (2) they wish D’s would put forward a nice and moral candidate, and (3) they wish D’s and R’s would get along. This 👏 is 👏 median.

If accurate, this would explain the gaping hole where ideological coherence should be. The coalitions that make up these movements seem incoherent because they are. Subgroups might be disciplined and ideological, but no one at the helm can articulate a vision because there is no vision and no helm.

Having thought about it for a while, i still think using 20th Century political movements to explain the current politics was a bad idea. I think what were are seeing is 21st century populism with 20th century far-right/far-left aesthetic flavoring.
