We are an independent charity improving the health of people and nature in the North York Moors National Park and surrounding areas.

Children and parents connected with nature and helped habitats thrive this summer as part of our Birds on the Edge project. Families from Scarborough took part in conservation, sensory crafts and creative play, supporting their wellbeing and nature and creating lasting memories.

Our Stepping Stones to Nature programme supports children to grow up well. Through nature-based activities we build confidence and skills, support health and wellbeing, development and learning, and nurture connection with nature from the school field to the National Park. 🌿

We are on the BBC! Through Stepping Stones to Nature we are helping children to grow up well. 🌿 We engage children through nature-based, sensory and curriculum linked activities that support their health, development and learning, build confidence and skills, and nurture a love of nature.

Connecting with nature is good for the heart, mind and soul. 🌿 Great day in the National Park hosting our monthly Trust Treks- a walk and talk group we run to connect men with nature and each other to support physical and mental health and tackle isolation. Foraging, plant and bird ID and more.

The Turtle Dove flutters into our #SpringArrivalSpotlight today, migrating from Africa in April. Listen for their gentle ‘turr-turr’ in gardens and countryside - a sound of summer that’s sadly growing quieter, but one that we’re working hard to protect.

Habitat restored💧 ✅ We restored the historic dew pond on Appleton-le-Moors Common in the National Park through our Birds on the Edge project. Working with the community we are creating a haven for wildlife - including beaches for Turtle Dove. Funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund and S106.

This week we established a new orchard in the Low Horcum, North York Moors National Park with our partner Rounton Coffee. Planting fruit varieties local to the Moors. 🍏🌳 In time it’ll provide habitat for wildlife and pollinators, store carbon and improve soil health. A win for nature and heritage.

Great to hear UK Government has extended the Farming in Protected Landscapes scheme until 2026. We previously received funding for our Birds on the Edge project, working with farmers to create rich, diverse habitat to support threatened and at risk species like the Turtle Dove. A win for nature!

By planting native trees and restoring woodland and key habitat we are raising funds to connect the next generation with nature and the National Park whilst providing the public with an opportunity to sustainably commentate loved ones. 🌳💚 More on our Planting a Lasting Legacy initiative →

Happy Fungi Friday! 🍄‍🟫 Flammulina velutipes, or velvet shank, spotted glimmering like gems in a woodland in the North York Moors. They thrive in winter, growing on the deadwood of ash, beech and oak. Slowing down and connecting with nature is proven to support our mental health and wellbeing.
