Buntzen Lake being closed due to wildfires in the area is serving as a bit of a mind fuck tonight. It’s a 25ish minute drive from my parents’ house. One of our favourite spots to kayak at. Wildfire threats have never been that close to home or to my -very local- fave nature spots

Sometimes I wonder ‘when did I become so dang awkward at interacting with people I want to stay in touch with?’ and the answer is generally ‘the year I burnt out and am still crawling back from’ I guess 💀

My 4-year/old just learned about the concept of infinity and is now throwing a tantrum over it. “It’s weird! I don’t like it. I just want numbers to stop!”
Certainly true in a lot of ways, but at least in Canada…. Give me the strawberries, bread, cucumbers, butter and raspberries from the 80s. Most notably, some fruit has gotten worse/bland. I don’t bother buying strawberries at the store anymore.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.

Went for a walk with my BFF to our old elementary school tonight, sat on the swings and caught up on over a month and a half of life events since she’d been out of town. Life has been moving so fast lately it’s hard to keep track of things. When we were kids life seemed infinite 😅
These are wild times. I fear for what this means for the EA office here in Burnaby 🫠
EA officially goes private tonight, meaning: - EA will no longer trade on the NASDAQ for the first time in 36 years - All stockholders of EA (including many employees) will receive $210/share - EA will take on $18 billion (!) in debt, putting it on the hook to pay ~$1.8 billion/year in interest

I was thinking about this last night - the anti-trans rhetoric is resulting in girls sports being shut down, or girls being subjected to ‘exams’ and this is all over the news. its pretty safe to call these people out as pedophiles & sexists online. They cannot pretend their bigotry is to ‘protect’
Good framing.
Watched Project Hail Mary tonight (& last night - dad fell asleep halfway through 😂) They both adored it, well reviewed movie for all three of us (a bit of a rarity tbh) I feel like the version we watched here was extended vs the one I watched at my home, is there more than one cut?
Anyways, here’s a fledgling/baby chickadee that just sits around in one spot for a long time while waiting for its parents (I assume) It’s very fluffy and has cute lil polkadots that I didn’t do a great job of capturing It often looks a bit overwhelmed by the world 😂
This article is charming, and reminds me of the vibes of 2005-2014 internet a lot 🥹🩷

Bill C-34 puts too much faith in Big Tech. Canada should regulate the algorithms, data practices and business models that drive online harm.

Last full day having my parents house all to myself and of course it’s raining 😭
Was deadheading some dahlias at dusk, and left this one because a bumblebee has tucked herself into it for an evening sleep 🥰🐝🌸
I hope folks take care of each other & prepare for this, the heat dome we had in Vancouver years ago resulted in many avoidable deaths. It was miserable. Also - a WILD lack of awareness to see a weather website post about an impending Heat Dome & then use ChatGPT for a dumb/unnecessary image. WTF?
#Seattle is luckily about to dodge a massive and intense heat dome that is about to cover much of the rest of the West with 100+ to even 110+ degree heat. Here, we'll be in the 70s. But it comes at a potential great cost for Eastern Washington: emeraldcityweather.com/seattle-dodg... #wawx
Reminder for everyone - the CEO of ModRetro is Palmer Luckey, who is a war profiteer (1), AI weapons manufacturer (2), fascist surveillance state supporter (3), genocide enthusiast (4), and pedophilia supporter (5). Supporting ModRetro means you're supporting fascism. Sorry, that's just the truth.
House sitting for my parents, I’ve probably been alone overnight in this old creaky* house no more than 30 times in my life, and wouldn’t you know it…. I can’t sleep 😣 *fondly described
The song Californication (it sounds like sour milk tastes and looks like an ugly orange red, I know this makes zero sense)
What is an extremely nerdy/obscure/specific thing you hate with a white-hot wrath?
Anytime someone talks about the game Kings Quest I always mistakenly think they’re talking about Treasure Mountain, which is probably kinda funny to a specific type of person (I loved Treasure Mountain as a kid)
