Miami Synchronized Skating has been a dynasty since I was there. Mizzou Chess seems like another obvious one. But I have so many questions about how many of these other championships work. Steel Bridge Building?! And I'm dying to know what 1/4 Scale Tractor is.

Since we did the drive again a few days ago, I paid better attention. Again, no conservative political billboards. Some of the usual Jesus ones. Notable new ones include "Help Pennsylvanians, Not Billionaires" and "Fund Healthcare, Not Billionaires" (those obviously connected, same font etc)

What's so striking is that faking examples like this is an own goal. I doubt this would have passed peer review, but it could have gotten past the desk read. When you're discussing literal textbook examples you need to use the examples, not ask chat to make you an 8-bar antecedent-consequent in D...

But musical examples *100% wrong*--slop. My best conclusion is someone carefully generated this a para or two at a time, looking plausible but saying nothing

End of another swim season. The kid worked hard and set another PB. The way I know "6-7" is over is that I did the hand gesture in response to her time drop. Not only did I not get a smile or an eye roll, I didn't even get a glimmer of recognition. It's like it never even happened.
Meanwhile, Tesla says hold my beer, dropping a full 25% of its stock value in three weeks. So at least all the worst people you know will never retire either.

On the other hand, it's fun watching SpaceX's stock price go down and down and down. So I suppose it all comes out even. I wonder if I'll feel that way while I'm still teachnig first-year music theory when I'm 80.

I consulted on a patent case, and we won. I can't talk about it, but I probably should have charged them more.

It's been a tough swim season: it's frustrating when you're just fast enough to be the 5th or 6th kid in the top heat. All-county time standards drop ~4 seconds each time you age up. But she's worked hard all summer. Needed a 24.23 in the 25 Back at the last meet, and guess what she turned in...

Obviously signing up for some stiff competition in the all-county meet, but she’s so happy. I’m not sure I anticipated just what a *relief* it is when your kid meets a big goal they’re working hard for.
My wife and I both had things to do in the early evening, so we paused the game in the 89th minute at 1-1. Came back after the kids were in bed and oh my was that ever England in a high stakes tournament game 🤯
My mom worked at our public library. The bus or friends' parents would drop me off there after middle school, and I would spend hours exploring the stacks, playing the Star Wars card game w/a HS kid who also hung out there, or wandering down the street to the comic shop or music shop.

There are a lot of delightful things about chairing an interdisciplinary program but they're dwarfed by the extra-curricular: watching a mild-mannered 70-something geneticist put away gargantuan stacks of pancakes every morning 🤣

Last night I slept for 10 hours, and I plan to that tonight too. But only after several hours of Teams calls to discuss said interviews...🫠

My institution has great online resources, but one gap is online dissertation access. I had to ILL one from the University of Chicago, and they sent me the guy's *actual* dissertation from Regenstein. An old-school two-volume one, text and examples are separate. Doesn't *someone* have a pdf though?!
