it is 2006. I am warning my friends that Vic Mignogna is unsafe and not to be trusted. it is 2026. I am warning the internet that Vic Mignogna is still unsafe and still not to be trusted. WHEN WILL THIS END?!

And this issue is 100% brilliant fuck you to people who don't read or understand anything about history, but scream a lot about patriotism. Lonnie G. Bunch is my favorite American hero right now.

I've been reading it slowly and savoring it, but bsky.app/profile/smit... America's 250th anniversary issue is everything I want in a celebration. It's a fantastic look at American history and achievements with no washing of consequences or behaviors. It focuses on important but less-known voices.

If you won't be at Anime NYC, you can still get my book at booksellers online and a store near you. (And, if that store near you is Edgewater Mitsuwa, you might find a signed copy!)

Just a reminder that I wrote a book on the history of the Yuri genre which was then published by the wonderful publisher @journeypress.bsky.social, which you should definitely buy and support us both! By Your Side: The First 100 Years of Yuri Anime and Manga www.yuricon.com/product/bys/

Front an back covers of By Your Side: The First 100 Years of Yuri Anime and Manga by Erica Friedman. The front shows two girls wearing the oldest Japanese girls schools uniforms, looking longingly at one another as they hold hands, surrounded by lilies, a pattern which burns away to reveal a back cover of two girls with brightly colored hair and uniforms of the future, gleefully clasping one another.

I don't have times yet, but I will be doing a book signing at AnimeNYC at the Manga Mavericks (Independent Media Alliance) table. I'm looking forward to meeting some new and old friends! More formal announcement later. ^_^

The absolute WORST thing about AI is that you cannot block "AI" on systems because it would block words like "train" which is exactly why we know AI is dumb as fuck.

Clarkesworld has recently discovered that their August issue successfully breached containment and gained access to the Internet, where it is presently hacking reader's minds. "Oh no, what will we do? Who knew that stories could be so powerful?" said Neil Clarke, when approached for comment.

The August issue of Clarkesworld is now online and features stories by Ravn J. Silver, Eilis O’Neal, Jordan Alexander, D.A. Xiaolin Spires, E.N. Auslender, Y.M. Pang, and H.H. Pak. clarkesworldmagazine.com/issue_239 Subscribe today at: clarkesworldmagazine.com/subscribe/

The August issue of Clarkesworld features cover art by Thomas Brissot. A young woman flanked by two robots with large swords aimed straight down appear to be conversing with a tall water bird on the edge of a leafy area. The title is "A Visit To The Oracle" and the bird's beak is open as if speaking. The background fades shows a palace of sorts behind the bird but only whiteness behind the other figures.

Tomorrow we begin our Okazu turns 23! fundraising campaign. We are incredibly close to our annual goal already and just need a dozen or two more supporters/patrons to make it. This year we're offering a thank you gift to patrons who support us with an $10/month or more pre-paid annual subscription!

Following up on the consult email. They said they'd do an honorarium, fine. Then they wanted me the next day or day after without any of the details I asked for. When I said this was not enough time to schedule an hour, I have not heard back. I am annoyed but not surprised.
