For those who are upset about Anthropic destroying books: What difference does it make whether they destroy them or keep them in a private library? Because functionally, it's identical: the copy is removed from the market either way.
Typical Bluesky logic on LLMs: 1) LLMs are just linear algebra, so they can't be intelligent. 2) Therefore, they can't be useful. 3) Therefore, anyone who uses them is either delusional, duped or unethical.
AI: (cures cancer) Bluesky: Actually, the AI didn't *really* cure cancer. It just predicted the next most likely word in a loop until a solution to cancer was extruded.
At the drop of a hat you can get any businessman to give you an eloquent speech on the virtues of a free market. But when it comes to their own business, they want a special tariff. They want a special tax deduction. They want a tax subsidy. Businessmen are enemies of free markets. - M. Friedman
The "everything is political" playbook: 1) use an absurdly broad definition of "political" to prove everything qualifies (including breathing) 2) use that proof to justify bringing in politics (narrow definition) into issues that aren't actually political
Unpopular opinion: I actually see just as much open bigotry on Bluesky as on X (maybe even more).

Maybe it's just me but I always always found adult sports fandom slightly surreal. The psychology of it is fascinatingly bizarre.

the price of compute has mostly been falling through the floor for decades but it briefly gets more expensive because we figured out the coolest thing ever (seriously it’s so cool that there’s thousands of sci fi novels about it) which needs a lot of compute and everyone loses their minds
I'm generally opposed to the death penalty, but holy shit that psycho from "Maternal Instinct" deserves it.
