I've added piranha like enemies to our #nes game. I think they turned out quite decent for using 2-frame animation. And best of all, they are a variation of our flying bats making it possible to share most of the code. #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

It's the time of year to put some of my old computers out in the sun to make them less yellow. Works surprisingly well. In the picture you see my old #c64 I bought as a kid. It has assy 250466 and is still going strong!

After having used the new #c64ultimate for a day, I'm very pleased. It really lives up to its name and makes it fun to try out new games and demos for the #c64. The only thing I miss is a fast way to swap disks without entering a menu for seamless demo watching.

My kid using the #c64ultimate for the first time. He was a bit confused to say the least. When I told him I used real cassettes back in the day, he got very intrigued, so the plan for the day is to connect my old datasette and see if we can play a couple of my old games.

I'm currently working on new enemies in our #nes game. The skeleton enemy you see here is immune to jumps and need to be punched. Currently we have 8 enemies in the game, but I think we need to reach closer to 50 to have enough variation. #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

I've started to make proper levels in our #nes game. It's quite fun but also challenging, as we are not doing a conventional platformer and need to invent a good formula for levels. I use greyboxing until I have something fun. #gamedev #nesdev #homebrew #indiedev

Today I've worked on collision in the over world of our #nes game. We use 16x16 tiles so the grid is quite blocky. By adding special tiles that nudge the player it makes the navigation much smoother as you don't get stuck as easily. Works really well! #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

I got a new computer today so I could migrate to Windows 11 and oh my God it's been painful. I've had several Windows 11 bugs (with crashes) and getting back to a similar state as with my Windows 10 machines seems impossible. Is it not possible to get Visual Studio 2022 anymore?

As it's Christmas I've changed the palette to get snow. It's fascinating how much a simple palette change can do. You also see me testing collisions for entities by dropping a coin on punches. Not single frame drop in sight! #nes #nesdev #gamedev #homebrew #indiedev

Just finished watching Terminator with the kids. They liked it a lot so tomorrow we'll move on to Terminator 2. Also, I had no idea the T-800 model is powered by a 6502 like processor. Pretty funny.

Got my Multisystem 2 in the mail today from @heber-limited.bsky.social . I've been looking forward to the Multisystem 2 more than Switch 2, and so far it does not disappoint. I'm quite blown away by the form factor and it looks much better in person than I thought!

I've been doing a lot of work with the overall framework of the game lately, such as adding a save system, menus, progress displayed on the map for levels etc. It's fun as it makes the game feel more real. #nes #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev

This week I've worked on the over world from where you enter levels. I've decoupled levels from entities which means I can have a lot of levels in a screen as they no longer take up entity space. What you see is one biome and the plan is to have several. #nes #nesdev #gamedev #indiedev #homebrew

After a summer holiday break I'm back with #nesdev. Today I've added a charge punch that makes it possible to destroy bigger and harder blocks but could also be used for stronger enemies. I'm leaning towards the skill being an upgrade you don't have at the start. #nes #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

I've implemented a system that persists data between rooms in a level which makes the game remember destroyed blocks. The best part is that it's quite memory efficient so levels can be pretty large. #nes #nesdev #homebrew #indiedev #gamedev

Finally got around to upgrade my #mega65 core to latest version today. Very smooth process! Also managed to test Maniac Mansion which was very cool to see!

I've added the ability to punch enemies and punch throw blocks. Effects are missing and animation is still work in progress, but it's quite promising. The idea is that it will also open up more ways to interact with the world beyond just destroying things. #nes #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev

Here is an update on the water effect. It now works as expected in both vertical and horizontal rooms and takes the camera into consideration. Conclusion is it's starting to look quite doable now! #nes #nesdev #homebrew #gamedev #indiedev
