Rod Serling and his collaborators repeatedly and stealthily tackled such subjects as prejudice, creeping authoritarianism, the dangers of humans being replaced by technology and the peril of conformity as a societal ideal in ways that still resonate. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/07/o...

Susan Collins claims that our reporting about CEO Martin Kao’s bribery allegations took him at his word. That’s not true. We reviewed a trove of FBI evidence and legal records. Here’s how we independently corroborated much of Kao’s account.

JON STEWART: “So in the FUTURE we WILL use A.I. to cure diseases… but right now it’s mostly murder, surveillance, and surge pricing for the McRib — What a trade! I’m getting the sense you guys might be full of shit.”

The Trump administration’s actions resulted in the destruction of the largest ancient Cottonwood tree on Indigenous territory in Arizona. This tree, known as the “Grandmother Tree,” was 250 years old.

On World Teachers Day, a huge thank you to Carol Maguire, who taught both my sons at the tender age of 5, saw their strengths and challenges, and knew just what they needed to help them thrive.

Happy #WorldTeachersDay from the AFT! Today, let's honor all of our educators by giving them the respect and resources they need to educate students for years to come.

Katie Phang: "Todd Blanche wants to continue to hide the Epstein files from the American people. He wants to allow the existing redactions and withholdings to stand as a matter of law. He's saying what he has done is legally sufficient. And I am here to say, hell no, it is not."

This is all hands on deck! Pneumatic plague is airborne and nearly always fatal if untreated. Wiped out 150 million, half of Europe, way back when. Treatable with antibiotics, but we don't have enough antibiotics. Also from a lab in Russia, where they still have weaponized plague. Total nightmare.

Reports of a plague outbreak in Russia follow the death of a researcher

Several hospitals in the Irkutsk region have been shut down and up to 200 workers have been quarantined.

#ResistanceRoots Henrietta Lacks died on this day in 1951 in Baltimore, Md. She only became well-known for what she contributed after her death. However, she deserves to be remembered as a beautiful young mother who was much more than her immortalized human cell line used in medical research. /1

Henrietta Lacks, ca. late 1940s. Lacks is the unwitting mother of modern medical research whose exploitation forced the world to reinvent medical ethics. As the source of the HeLa cell line, she unknowingly gave humanity its first “immortal” human cells, enabling medical advances that have touched millions of lives worldwide. The dark side of these medical breakthroughs is the stark reality of paternalistic, Jim Crow-era medicine, where a poor Black woman’s body could be harvested without her knowledge or informed consent. For decades, Henrietta was reduced to an anonymous laboratory code. Today, her descendants, artists and global communities have fought to ensure she is remembered as a person. Her final resting place is marked with a granite headstone honoring her not just as a medical miracle, but as a mother who loved to cook, wear bright red lipstick, and take care of her family.
