If the President actually wanted to strengthen our elections, there are better places to start: adequately funding election administration, restoring the federal election cybersecurity program he cut & expanding access to vote-by-mail, paper ballot elections – just to name a few.

Yesterday, I received a letter from the U.S. Department of Justice stating that the federal government was ready to prosecute and imprison me and other elections officials and renewing their attempts to unlawfully meddle in Oregon elections. Here's my response:

Oregon already has the talent, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit to be a competitive leader in the 21st century economy. I'll continue to fight for Oregon and make the case that this is a place that welcomes innovation, supports creativity and supports builders.

Happy Independence Day, Oregon. 250 years ago, our founders put us on a new path, one that rejected kings and placed the power with the people. That right is at the heart of who we are as a nation, and that's why I'm committed to defending it.

Here in Oregon, we have a robust citizen initiative petition process, where everyday Oregonians can join together to make laws directly through the ballot. My job is to make sure Oregonians have equal access to this process and that everyone is treated fairly and follows the rules.
