🚨48 HOURS TO GO🚨 On Tuesday we're delivering our petition to Chancellor John Healey at No. 11 Downing Street 🚪 to #TaxTheBanks bit.ly/TaxTheBanks So we thought we'd share 11 reasons why he should. No 1. Banks actually got handed a tax *cut* back in 2023 when...
#TaxTheBanks
Years of higher interest rates have sent our rent, mortgage, and debt payments soaring, while banks have raked in huge profits for doing absolutely nothing. The big four UK banks (Barclays, HSBC,...

So, over to you John Healey and @andyburnham.bsky.social: will you deliver on the cost of living like you promised? This campaign is going from strength to strength and will hold you to account! @osheaconor.bsky.social
That's why we need a cost of living budget, and turn "talking a good game" into real action, says @osheaconor.bsky.social
This winter, bills are going to be higher than they were at the peak of the Russia/Ukraine crisis. We must all be protected from this. COLA has coordinated a letter, telling the Chancellor and @miattafahnbulleh.bsky.social that universal support is needed. www.theguardian.com/money/2026/o...

Today inflation rose again, driven by fuel prices and rents continuing to squeeze household budgets. The budget is a chance for Andy Burnham to put words into action and truly tackle the cost of living. COLA reaction thorough @osheaconor.bsky.social:
UK inflation rises to 3.1%, piling more pressure on households
We’ve seen this movie before. It ends with homelessness, Temporary Accommodation costs crippling local councils, renters in severe financial hardship. That this can be done without huge social damage is the politics of wishful thinking.
‘We will cap Local Housing Allowance,’ Kemi Badenoch on Today. But it’s already capped, not to mention frozen. Assume she means lower caps
"Rent caps are an immediate means of making sure that whatever measures the government takes to tackle the cost of living crisis, they are felt in our households" Our Director Clara Collingwood sets out the benefits of rent caps in @labourlist.bsky.social 📰 labourlist.org/2026/09/burn...

By introducing rent caps, Andy Burnham would give his government their best shot at making sure voters are better off at the next election.

"Everything the Prime Minister does must drive down the cost of living, to make sure that people's costs do not rise at the rate they have been, to make sure that they are paid adequately and to make sure that we're taxed fairly." @osheaconor.bsky.social on Talk TV last night for COLA:
It's not just fossil fuel giants. Big banks are having a bonanza on the back of the global crisis making the rest of us poorer. The "BIG 4" (HSBC, Barclays, Lloyds & NatWest) are making £6.7million/hour. We don't have to put up with it. Tax the profiteers. 👉 you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/ra...
I’ll be appearing on Talk TV at about 10 o’clock this evening to discuss today’s council housebuilding announcement for @costoflivingaction.bsky.social.
Campaign Coordinator @osheaconor.bsky.social or appeared on @lbc.co.uk 's Sunday show with @paulbrand.bsky.social to discuss the Prime Minister's upcoming 'cost of living tour', and the structural solutions to the crisis the public want to see.
6% of Brits can’t afford enough food for their household. Nearly a quarter can’t afford to go away on a week’s annual holiday. When the cost of living crisis is this severe, why are renters paying 36% of their income on housing costs? We need rent caps now!
I’ll be on @lbc.co.uk for @costoflivingaction.bsky.social just after 10 to speak about what the Prime Minister’s tour of the country might mean for his response to the cost of living crisis.
"The cost of living crisis is sucking the joy out of life for millions of families, with small treats – let alone holidays and foreign travel – a distant dream." Campaign Coordinator @osheaconor.bsky.social in @lbc.co.uk Opinion on holidays and the cost of living. www.lbc.co.uk/article/cant...

Disappointing to hear this from the Secretary of State - the government should look at the evidence for rent caps more closely. Average rents have risen faster than wages for 11 of the past 15 years. The cost of renting crisis is not going away. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

BREAKING: The Cost of Renting Receipt 1988 was the last time we had rent controls in England. Since then rents have risen by 1,200%. If our groceries had risen at the same rate, a standard ten-item shop would cost nearly £120, more than five times what it costs today.
Reacting to more cost of living announcements from the government, @osheaconor.bsky.social was back on LBC News this morning talking about the need for these positive measures to be backed up with long term, structural changes.
To continue a busy week of the cost of living crisis in the news, I'll be on LBC News in about 10 minutes for @costoflivingaction.bsky.social.

Today has been a busy day of cost of living news. Campaign coordinator @osheaconor.bsky.social went on @lbcnews.bsky.social this morning to discuss the government's plan to take VAT off energy bills, and the possibility that bigger measures are coming.
We couldn't agree more, @andyburnham.bsky.social . Words need to lead to action, but encouraging that the cost of living is front and centre of the new government's agenda.
We've been waiting 40 years for a prime minister who promises to build a new economy - @dhnnjyn.bsky.social responds to Andy Burnham's first speech as prime minister.
Andy Burnham is the Prime Minister and he spent his first minutes in the job talking about his plan for the cost of living outside Number 10 Downing Street. Our reaction:
Campaign coordinator @osheaconor.bsky.social also spoke about our campaign and the importance of linking the structural problems in our economy to the issues people face with money.
