Haven’t posted here in months but decided to come back to have a big LOL at the YIMBYs who had a meltdown after I pointed out their their entire framing played right into the hands of the anti-immigration right, and now they’ve literally just came out as anti-immigration. Too fucking funny.

While over 2,000 ABC staff went on strike this week, a number of high-profile presenters chose to stay at work.

The big ABC names that refused to go on strike

As ABC staff filed back into work at 11am on Thursday morning, after taking the first strike action at the broadcaster in 20 years, the chatter was about just how effective the last 24 hours were. Lamestream reported yesterday that ABC bosses were clearly underprepared for the scale of the strike, which shut down TV and radio broadcasts, and brought the ABC News website to a standstill, pushing managers to rely heavily on wire stories and reporting from a handful of journalists around the country who refused to strike. There were also a number of high profile ABC journalists who didn’t strike, and who management drew upon to report news headlines and write stories for the website. These journalists have drawn particular ire from striking staff, both because by continuing to work they are undermining the purpose of the strike which is to shut down the broadcaster and because they tend to be on much higher salaries than those taking industrial action. On Wednesday afternoon, rumours began to circulate among staff on strike that the former presenter of _AM_ on ABC radio, Sabra Lane, was being drafted in by management to read news headlines on local radio. Lane quit her role at _AM_ at the end of last year, and was on extended leave from the ABC. Sarah Ferguson is asking Albanese the same number of questions about Shia memorials in Australia commemorating Khamenei as she asked about the illegality of the war. Why would Albanese *not* support illegal wars if this is the interrogation from the media class?

Other than Trump himself, Albanese is the most prolific cheerleader for this illegal war. It’s what he is devoting this 7:30 interview to doing. Totally bizarre to throw yourself on the altar of Trump and Israel.

Good opportunity for a left-ish party in Australia to start talking about a republic. They need something to start a conversation and inject themselves into the discourse. A radical re-imagination of how the country is governed and a break from sex-trafficking elites seems a good place to start.

I still don’t understand why The Guardian sees part of its function as straight-up signal boosting deeply racist sloganeering like this. Not even the barest attempt to explain to the audience how heinous this language is and why?

Sharp piece. The right is completely dominating the Australian political ecosystem, everything from resurgent white nationalist to the total takeover of mainstream media is influencing and driving One Nation, Libs, Nats, and Labor. There is no left-wing equivalent of these force in Australia atm.
