Today in nerddom: meteorologists and climate scientists arguing whether wildfire smoke aids or inhibits overnight cooling.
Cutest thing ever just happened. A Goth couple walking down the sidewalk near the flower shop. It caught my attention because one partner quickly and kinda loudly told the other “don’t look”
Thinking about setting some ribs out on the back patio to pick up some flavor.
The past couple model runs have developed a ridge out of nowhere. So we’re going to have some offshore flow and associated smoke early in the week. It’s looking pretty dang warm midweek. Not a prolonged extreme heatwave but pretty unpleasant combination of hot and smoky.
After a few days of thinking about it this is the part that irks me the most. There’s room for reasonable minds to disagree about how “friendly” Portland is to business. Set that aside.

We have a customer who celebrates their anniversary every 100 days by having flowers delivered. They’re at 6,300. Really incredible couple and one of my favorite orders to see come in. Really good timing on their part. Local flowers are killing it this week.

We managed to elude wildfires for the first half of the summer. But it’s here now. A friend had to leave Ka-Nee-Ta because of level 3 evacuation yesterday and now the Grasshopper fire burns near Mt. Hood. It’s gonna be a rough Aug-Sep. Just look at the smoke blanketing Oregon to Montana and beyond.
