If you had told me 20 years ago that I would spend a typical Saturday night reading an agenda packet with draft planning documents, I would have said, “Yeah, that tracks.”

Views expressed here are mine and not official positions of the Town or Council. I run a lab where we teach students how to manage and maintain software for websites, streaming radio, and software mirrors. Come visit Carrboro. It’s lovely here.
really cannot be emphasized enough that the drafters of the birthright clause very much considered cases analogous to undocumented immigrants and *included them too*
That's right.
I want my trans neighbors to know: I see you, you matter, and our town is better because you’re here.
Really tough to hear this news... Jamezetta was a good person and a consummate professional to work with when talking with her for news coverage of BOCC meetings and votes. She'll be missed.

We were just talking about the budget a few weeks ago and Jamazetta was full of ideas and energy for the future. She will be sorely missed.

Happy Opal Lee Day. She'll be 100 years old in October #GrandmotherOfJuneteeth
Mrs Opal Lee, the grandmother of Juneteenth, deserves as much praise for today as the holiday itself. Turning 99 later this year in October, she successfully launched the campaign to make Juneteenth a federal holiday. She was also given the Presidential Medal of Freedom last year

For many years, there were allegations that ICE would “release” critically ill people in hospitals so that their deaths wouldn’t be recorded as in ICE custody. To fix this, in 2021 the Biden admin required ICE to report deaths occurring up to 30 days after release. Now that rule has been dropped.
The change comes as ICE has faced pressure after the death of 18 detainees so far this year. www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/...
New Brookings study links ICE arrest surges to widespread job losses and business closures in cities like Charlotte. More details:

There’s a straight line from the July 2025 Big Bill passed by congress, which took money from Medicare and SNAP and give it to 🧊, and the challenges counties and municipalities in NC are having with their budgets.
I'd say that this applies to anyone traveling in a car in any city. Being in a car versus walking, riding, or taking transit fundamentally changes how you view a place and your relationship to it. I wish more leaders set this kind of example. www.npr.org/2026/04/16/n...
