A nearly-forgotten movie about children doing their damndest: "Rabbit-Proof Fence", featuring three cousins resisting the White Australia movement that wanted to force them to breed with whites, ensuring the elimination of detectable Aborigines. Makes me cry, but ultimately uplifting.

If it makes you feel better, every case I've ever found where children wound up trapped in a survival situation, they banded together and helped each other to survive. There are cases of groups of schoolchildren surviving for years on their own. I based a book on that notion.
