DOJ Antitrust Division nominee Adam Candeub, who is an author of Project 2025, is basically laughing as Cory Booker asks him who won the 2020 election. He can't stop smiling and chuckling as he responds, multiple times, that Congress certified Biden as the winner. So smug and disgusting.

All 10 Senate Judiciary Democrats spoke out against Todd Blanche at his committee markup yesterday. Just now, only three Democrats showed up while 5th Circuit nominee Anna St. John testified before the committee. Only two asked questions. Democrats need to show up. These are LIFETIME appointments.

NEW: 5th Circuit nominee Anna St. John was just asked who won the 2020 election. She provided a canned response about Joe Biden being certified as the winner. She would not say that the Capitol was "attacked" on January 6 but said she would adopt the Supreme Court's language that it was "breached."

On the eve of the Voting Rights Act anniversary, the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing on a judicial nominee from the birthplace of the VRA: Alabama. He is a Trump loyalist and election denier who supports restrictive voting laws. Trump wants him on the bench before the midterms.

The witnesses for tomorrow morning's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing were just posted: Anna St. John for the 5th Circuit, Gregory Cook for the Northern District of Alabama, Jason Manion & John Cronan for the U.S. Sentencing Commission, and Adam Candeub to lead the DOJ's Antitrust Division.

The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing agenda for August 5: Anna St. John for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Gregory Cook for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, U.S. Sentencing Commission nominees Jason Manion and John Cronan, and Adam Candeub to serve as assistant attorney general for the antitrust division at DOJ.

Let's see how she votes on judicial nominees, too. Several anti-abortion nominees for lifetime judgeships remain pending on the Senate floor. Senator Collins has voted to confirm dozens of Trump's anti-reproductive freedom judicial nominees, including 20+ already during his second term.

It’s Amy Coney Barrett all over again. Collins, facing reelection, will vote no on an anti-abortion nominee who gets confirmed anyway

Wrote this last week about the four lifetime judicial nominees who remain pending on the Senate floor. At this point, will any of them be confirmed before recess? Thune would likely need to start filing cloture today and keep them in session on Friday. nominationnotes.substack.com/p/four-more-...

Four more lifetime judicial nominees could be confirmed by the end of next week

Here’s who could still be confirmed before the Senate’s scheduled recess.

Great that all 10 Senate Judiciary Democrats spoke out today against Blanche's nomination. They should also be doing that at every markup featuring Trump's loyalist judicial nominees who possess extreme, anti-civil rights records — and who will serve for DECADES if confirmed to the federal bench.

Thursday is the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. To celebrate, Republicans are holding a hearing tomorrow on a nominee from ALABAMA named Gregory Cook — an election denying Trump loyalist who supports voter suppression and warns of the "woke mob." nominationnotes.substack.com/p/trump-name...

Reminder during the Blanche markup: Since last year Trump has appointed three of his former personal lawyers — Emil Bove, Justin Smith, and Matthew Schwartz — to lifetime seats on the federal appellate bench. That's 30 percent of all Trump 2.0 judges appointed to circuit courts across the country.

NEW: Dozens of organizations wrote to Judiciary Committee leadership urging opposition to Anna St. John's elevation to the 5th Circuit. St. John was just confirmed to the district court in Louisiana in March. Trump thinks it's time for a promotion. nominationnotes.substack.com/p/dozens-of-...

Months after Anna St. John's confirmation to the Eastern District of LA, more than two dozen groups have come out in opposition to her elevation to the 5th Circuit — saying she has "a history of silencing women, attacking LGBTQ+ rights, and cutting off corporate accountability for everyday people."

There were no hearings, markups, floor votes, or cloture filings this week on any of Trump's lifetime judicial nominees. There are four nominees pending on the floor. We'll see who gets confirmed before recess! Next Wednesday the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on two more nominees.

"As a result, Washington bar examinees are in a nightmare scenario. The Washington bar should wake up, grant diploma privilege, and end the bar exam’s pointless monopoly over who gets to be a lawyer in the state."

NEW from me: A senior Trump official is using his govt social media account to attack sitting federal judges, sparking accusations he's putting their safety at risk as judges already face a spike in violent threats. This “puts a bullseye” on them, one judge told me. www.huffpost.com/entry/james-...

NEW: Before the Senate's scheduled recess, there's still time for senators to confirm the judicial nominees who remain pending on the floor. Here's a brief overview of those nominees: Kasdin Mitchell, Angela Colmenero, Matthew Byrne, and Daniel Domenico. nominationnotes.substack.com/p/four-more-...
