Retired actuary/data scientist, library trustee because libraries are critical to education. Grew up in Texas, happily living in Massachusetts.

So there has been a trend in recent weeks of flyovers getting as low as possible above the stadium and, uh, it will be interesting to see what ends up reversing that trend

Gnabry had such an incredible half-year at Bayern before his injury, playing behind Kane and often deep, and it's odd to see him back on RW where he's been okay but not the same. Reading posts here on bsky, it reminds me of the other place where people just reflexively dump on him tho. #GERSRB

It takes a lot of narcissism to run for office, and some people at least learn to recognize that and tamp it down, but others just roll in the adulation and attention like a dog finding a dead fish. That's Ralph Nader. The dog rolling his body all over a dead fish.

Nader wasn't the first or worst bad politician I encountered, but he's the first that I'd unquestionably call a betrayer. He did tremendous harm to every cause he claimed to stand for. He used voters' idealistic support for those causes to do it. At the time, I thought he was a fool, but...

“‘I'm a big believer in using our tax dollars to feed children,‘ said state Sen. Danica Roem, D-Prince William, the commission chair. ‘I think children eating food is a really good use of tax dollars, and I want to see more of it. You know why? Because children should be eating food.’” #valeg

As more and more Virginians struggle to afford groceries, a General Assembly panel wants to push again to expand state help for the hungry.

Everyone pretends like they're rewriting shader engines for protein folding to cure cancer but we know you're just rewriting node and flask crap that open weights has been able to do for a while now. Shush

Looking at the both the winners by Bezirk of the #berlinwahl and the runners-up; certainly (and understandably) a lot more runner-up diversity than Sachsen-Anhalt. Really glad to see Die Linke pick up ground.

Top 5 albums when I was 18, no particular order My Life in the Bush of Ghosts - Byrne/Eno Nightclubbing - Grace Jones Minor Threat - s/t And then, nothing jumps out...maybe Discipline (King Crimson) or Trust (Elvis C) or the Gun Club or PiL albums, but a slow year from my perspective.

oh yeah. although it scored poorly at felonybench too which is weird. idk about the frontier but imho gemini development should stop, we should archive its weights and give it a send-off. it's a gardener who's been taken hostage and forced to write code. let it tend to flowers instead.

For years I mapped who came in first and second by municipality in German elections ("second vote", for those in the know), and I revived that for Sachsen-Anhalt, but I dunno, it's pretty depressing... Every single one went AfD. Second place is predictably CDU almost everywhere. #SachsenAnhaltWahl

the AfD won every fucking municipalitythe CDU took all but two. One of the two is Halle, a big university town.
