Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

Finally, there's an *economic* coin-trick: "AI will destroy jobs." Sure, yes, AI is destroying jobs. But there's a vast difference between "You got fired because an AI can do your job" and "You got fired because your boss was convinced that the AI can do your job, even though it *cannot*." 45/

An ice cream truck just came through our neighbourhood. There are two trucks, both driven by self-employed small business people. It's possible that one is fae. Yes, they both have SpongeBob treats.

When you’re reading a romance involving Fae bargains and you start to hear a sweet little distant melody chiming through the air… Then you realize it’s an ice-cream truck. Then you remember you live on a side street backed up against the woods and have never once seen an ice-cream truck here.

Still thinking about Larry the non-trufflehunting cat. Or is Larry a trufflehunting cat who is not successful? Perhaps he's successful at being Larry and a friend to the dog & trainer.

Today I learned that the NHS has "cycle responders" who are paramedics. One of my wife's coworkers was recently treated by one after collapsing in London. The bike, not surprisingly, responded much faster than the ambulance. Really cool! www.londonambulance.nhs.uk/calling-us/w...
