Going after people on disability, cutting their benefits during an affordability crisis, is probably the most despicable thing Premier Smith’s govt has done. Disability benefits across the country are already at scandalously low levels, and have never recovered from cuts in the late 1990s.

The Bank of Canada held its press conference yesterday on interest rates and state of the economy. A bigger message on the Bank's views about the economy is its treatment of its own security guards, on strike for weeks. Repeated violations of Canada Labour Code shows Bank's disrespect for labour.

Big victory for labour today. Labour Board ruled that Bank of Canada violated the Canada Labour Code by illegally using replacement workers during a strike. Ordered to stop within 48 hours.

Carney’s speech in Davos is troubling for those who believe in international law and human rights. He calls it a “fiction” that was useful to Canada bc we benefited, so long as we kept quiet about the “gaps between rhetoric and reality”. Kudos for calling out our own hypocrisy?

This has been my view for some time. Trade is important, but in this current global environment there are bigger concerns. The US needs to understand there are consequences for its actions.

It's become pretty clear that Ottawa is trying to hold onto all its deck chairs as it hobbles into CUSMA review later this year. But worrying about the fate of free trade is entirely mismatched with what Carney is describing, here. Our trading partner has become a security threat.
