In which I reveal myself to be a London-based artist, mainly of the male nude, and other famous events. No AI here. In fact there’s barely regular I. He/him Tip me: ko-fi.com/peacockpete

Was watching a YouTube video of an American woman and her family visiting the UK. She said, “London’s very expensive so we’ve made the most of Tesco and Sainsbury’s Meal Deals.” I love it when people really immerse themselves in the culture when they travel. I don’t even mean that ironically.

Just thinking how weird it was to have an intro by Tom Holland before Spider-Man started, although quite nice. Then one of the cinema staff made an announcement about not taking photos or filming (of course). Neither time did anyone say put your phone away and shut the fuck up. Disappointing, Tom.

Just saw a nostalgia-porn supercut of the 80s, with a comment underneath that said kids these days… “All full of anxiety and crippling lack of social skills.” Because yeah, that’s a new thing.

I’m kind of boring myself with talking about The Odyssey, honestly. Here’s the thing, did it hit the marks for me? Not greatly. Is Christopher Nolan an experienced Hollywood filmmaker whose job it is to make something thar entertains people? Yes, and it’s cool people enjoyed it. However…

One thing that I think is positive about the Odyssey is that it’s engendered broader interest in the myths. Like today, for instance, when a colleague turned to me and said out of the blue, “Who the fuck is Helen of Troy?”

“MAGA is losing it over this Anna Hathaway speech” MAGA loses it if they see someone with colour in their hair. So what? I get a bit hacked off with the framing of these things. It reduces messages (I think it’s a complex message in this case) to bait. Gets engagement, but the message is muddied.

I’ve watched some contemporary movies and TV shows lately and they haven’t included a breathy young woman singing Creep. Not even an orchestral version. Why the sudden drop off?

I see there’s a new full cast audio production of Dracula coming out. For me, occasionally, a small cast on audio can work when reading a book, especially when there’s a clear distinction of PoV. But jumping through a slew of voices is so distracting to me, it kind of takes me out.
