I saw a lot of horse babies annoying their moms today. This one (hip no. 82) will get to stay on assateague island with the herd. There are 7 foals that were selected as “buybacks” this year, which is where they are auctioned for naming rights and to raise money and then remain a part of the herd.

Several chincoteague wild ponies graze in a fenced pasture with wooden structures and shelters visible in the background. I am going to chincoteague, va for the annual round up of the resident wild pony herd (I swear I have non-horse hobbies) with my mom and she called it “the sturgis of ponies”. Like, the motorcycle rally… and I’m not sure that’s apt but I’ll be sure to report.

excuse me, everyone: please look at my plow pony. his name is moose, he’s ex-amish, he’s Rather Yellow, and he’ll mug you for treats. as a bonus, he has an ample caboose.

this is a fox, not an equid, but it was hanging out along my driveway. I also saw a deer run by behind said fox and a bat swooped in front of my car.
