Hard Boiled Egg

Dilettante, but quite good at it because I put the hard yards in. I contain multitudes, it's a shame they don't get on.

The real problems with IHT are the undeniably emotive picture of the state sweeping in and grabbing a slice of the inheritance grieving relatives, the small amount it actually raises, and the fact that it doesn't really address the underlying issue of wealth fossilisation.

Badenoch says IHT hits “ordinary middle class families” across the country (whereas I’m pretty sure that only 1 in 20 estates pay it) She has promised to exempt family homes from IHT

'Apaches' the public information film about how lethal rural life can be. Shown to me and fellow 5&6 year olds at primary school. So terrifying, when I heard it was being shown again to us the following year I hid under a table to avoid going. It regularly puts the shits up adults 50 years later.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

I read this immediately after reading another post that said a full quarter of Brits have no sympathy for those crossing the Channel in small boats. Here, what should be our natural instincts are on show; when a helpless life is in danger our first response should be to offer aid.

Paddling (canoeing) across Windermere today, into the teeth of a pretty stiff Force 3 wind - lumpy, and just this side of whitecaps - I came across a swimming squirrel, looking very stressed. Not a planned swim, I'm guessing. It was 300m to either shore, so I'm not sure s/he was going to be okay.
