Both brains and RNNs can re-use components of computation across similar tasks or contexts. But what exactly are those โshared componentsโ? How can they be used to solve several tasks? We address these questions in a new preprint with @avm.bsky.social! Link: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Interpretable compositional computation with recurrent neural networks
Flexible cognition utilizes reusable components to enable rapid adaptation of behavior to different contexts or tasks. Analysis of artificial neural networks trained on multiple tasks suggested that t...

the original hexagon does not include AI, it includes computer science. the 1978 report explicitly defined the connections. (1) doesnโt work when you swap CS for AI. idk where the AI one came from but it canโt be used interchangeably with the one that came from the Sloan Foundation special report.

Intervening in complex complex systems
Can we engineer ecosystems before they collapse? In our new perspective on "emergent bioengineering" we argue that the key challenge is not simply controlling living systems, but designing interventions that can adapt and sustain functional ecological networks. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

If you use AI to help you peer review a paper, consider that >10 major concerns might be on the excessive side... In my view the reviewer's job is not to tell the authors what to do, but to evaluate the paper in front of them. If it's problematic, reject it!
