The overwhelming right wing sentiment is that COVID was an engineered bioweapon that was also harmless. Trump overreacted to it by shutting down the country, then engineered a drive to create a vaccine that was the real bioweapon that killed millions, and it's Joe Biden's fault.

@hcrichardson.bsky.social shows us the purpose of Trump’s speech this week and how it relates to the greater right-wing authoritarian project. The accusations against “communists” and “the Left” are spurious, acts of projection and confession. heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/july-17-2026

@pkrugman.bsky.social nails the point of last night's speech. paulkrugman.substack.com/p/trump-cant... 👇👇
The most disturbing aspect of Trump’s speech was not its content, lies and lunatic conclusions, but the fact he’d give it and think it helps justify his case for restricting our voting rights and meddling in November’s election. He doesn’t think he needs facts to support his assault on democracy.
The speech was bloviating and lies, but with the purpose of creating a permission structure to attack and attempt to overturn unfavorable election results. I hope that we the people won’t allow it.
Rep. Himes: "The president was setting the basis for him to turn around on election night and say, 'I warned you that the Chinese were doing x, y, and z. It happened tonight. I'm deploying federal officers from DHS to 7 states. They will be seizing ballot boxes.'"
Feels like tonight was a turning point for many (not all, but many) mainstream media orgs. They knew in advance that Trump would spew lies, and they were ready with deep skepticism and thorough factchecks. Even Fox (for its own reasons ofc) was like “whoa fella” Good to see. Hope it keeps up.
My takeaway from that speech is that we are headed down the road of Trump trying to outright rig elections. It probably won't work, but he's going for it.
So Trump’s position is that elections under him were the most corrupt in the world, then Biden was elected (by the Communist Party of China) and four years later they all oversaw a fair election that he won
In advance of this evening, a reminder: The lies about the 2020 election are racist tropes intended to exclude minority Americans from political power to protect the racial status quo
Drafted.
U.S. security forces are committing extrajudicial killings. These are grave human rights violations. This is a horrible truth we have to face.
"What the federal government has been doing to people assumed to be immigrants is different from normal police brutality. It is a targeted campaign. We are witnessing, for the first time since Jim Crow, American death squads."

Per @pkrugman.bsky.social, it's not just the war itself (which is bad enough), but also the permission structure for domestic repression that Trump & co. are trying to set up with the war as a pretext. paulkrugman.substack.com/p/the-foreve...
