A well-meaning person recently asked me “Do you think AI will take your job?” An answer came this morning in an email from someone I taught 15 years ago.

Obviously, my own life has taken a bit of a turn from the humanities, but I did want to express that your teaching was absolutely fundamental to me—from Victorian British Lit to the really important things like the respect, creativity, and, honestly, the amount of fun and being oneself that can be achieved within the classroom and academia writ large.
