Avatar Aang is out! Go watch! These are some sketches and studies I did while on it as I was trying to get the hang of the style. A lot of it referencing Kihyun Ryu's work.

Said everything, these are some of the 2D shots (there are more but these are my favorite) from the movie. I learned so much from the 2D team, full of incredible people, Michael, Husain, and Jacob Tobin that helped me to finish that Ocean Spirit shot. Despite everything, I'm happy for being here 🥹

This is the hard part. Objectively a lot of talented artists worked on AA:TLA! But if you see AI referenced in production even once, it does make one wonder how much was used elsewhere in the project. I think it’s fair to support and honour their hard work while still holding healthy skepticism.

It absolutely does. I think it's a gorgeous movie and lots of people did phenomenal work on it, but it stings that I now have to wonder to what degree it's tainted by this garbage

Hnf, this is the stuff that gets poisoned by poor leadership taking the AI pill. Look at this amazing work! It's great. I just want to be excited for the film and the hard work and the artistry that is in it, and then their leadership just had no filter using ChatGPT or bragging about it publicly.

Some shots from the film I got to do in layouts/cleanup~ really glad I got to draw the whole Gaang~ .

Adult Zuko character layout. He is carrying various tools and supplies while looking grumpy.

I really hate this, on a number of levels. The skill that's showcased in the movie, in this craft, is HANDMADE, 2D animation. RAW, HUMAN EFFORT. I want to put my faith in such an expression of art, craft, skill, as organic. And bluntly, I'm tired of being let down like this.

I dont know if this is brazen or it has just become so normalized that people who use the stuff don't see it anymore but the text that opens the final paragraph on the right on the big slides for your sdcc presentation is WILD

According to chatgpt written in the Avatar movie presentation.

Just finished watching the Avatar movie, had a great time with it, and then opened bluesky to this. I have trouble believing the movie I just saw was made by anything but a team of people who care deeply about 2d animation as a human art form. And yet we really shouldn't even have to wonder.

Random fun Death Note trivia- I recognize all of L's computer hardware, a fun authentic time capsule. He uses an Apple Studio Display monitor, Apple Optical Pro mouse, and PowerMac G4 MDD model, all authentically from ~2002ish. It is also mildly amusing that L is a Mac and Light is a PC.

It was black inside of a thick clear plastic shell, and had a red light on the underside. It only had one mouse button iircA photo of a PowerMac G4 "Mirrored Drive Doors" model, a sweet futuristic curvy metal and plastic PC case, with curving carrying handles doubling as feet that lift it off the ground. There is a large transparent plastic apple logo on the side. The front's design is marred a bit by an access panel made of white opaque plastic, which earlier G4 designs didn't have.

Travelling through Saga Prefecture today on my way to Nagasaki. I stopped near Hamanoura, where you can get a great view of the ocean next to some terraced rice fields. It’s also apparently a popular spot with couples.
