Ecologist interested in everything, especially plant-animal interactions, ecoacoustics and phenology. Combining science with motherhood.

The in-person meeting of the Spanish Network of Research in Ecoacoustics (#REIE) was a great success! We had plenty of good science regarding ecoacoustics, networking with colleagues and two amazing workshops! I also presented there our work on the acoustic niche hypothesis and #ECOECLIPSE project.

I'm very sad to know that Dr. Geno Schupp has passed away yesterday. He was one of the best ecologists ever, with seminal contributions like the seed dispersal effectiveness. But not only by his work, he will be remembered by his joy of life and unique sense of humor. Rest in peace.

Despite being one of the most studied Mediterranean National Parks, research in Doñana remains disconnected and barely addressing multiple and interconnected drivers of global change. In this paper, we analyze intreconnections of drivers and propose improvements for a research agenda! Read it here!

🧪 Mediterranean ecosystems are changing fast & in dynamic, interconnected ways, but we rarely look at the interconnections. Doñana National Park is a great example of how multiple global-change drivers ripple through ecosystems via species interactions, trophic cascades, and habitat change. 🌍🧩

The complex interactive effects of global change stressors and cascading species interactions require integrative approaches that study and conserve ecosystems beyond individual species. This was a beautiful collaborative experience with colleagues from EBD

More than 7000 flamingos were spotted today, added to many other bird species. Not in a very remote place, but in Doñana! A wonderful visit to Veta la Palma that really made me feel very happy and fortunate with this work.

Just accepted paper in @IBIS_journal! This is the 1st published output of the WABAD dataset, including > 5,000 bird-annotated audios all over the world. A huge collaborative effort led by Cristian Pérez-Granados, Esther Sebastián and David Funosas. More fun research coming soon!! #ecoacoustics

Title of the article and assigned DOI for the publication in Ibis journal

Following Matthias Rillig's advice, I'm celebrating that the just received evaluation of the grant #BIRDeep (2022-2024), in which I was the PI, is overall positive. The evaluation committee qualified the results of the project as "satisfactory". It's a relief and a small milestone in my career

Celebrating the small wins in academia….a reminder to myself (and maybe you….) Please share with someone you think might also need this reminder :) open.substack.com/pub/matthias...
