Despite his friendship with Epstein being public knowledge, three months before his appointment as ambassador, 3334 Oxford dons and graduates voted for Mandelson in his failed bid to be Chancellor of Oxford University. Should they all resign? No? I don’t think so either - neither should Starmer
Just to be a bit pedantic, neither Starmer nor the Labour Party can block Burnham standing for election in the Gorton & Denton by-election. Only as standing as a Labour Party candidate. He needs only 10 nominating electors and £500. That’s democracy
Zack Polanski on ‘The Rest is Politics: Leading”. Slippery as an eel and living in economic fantasy land. Competing with Zarah Sultana for who can propose the most batshit crazy policies. (This should get me a few blocks 😀)
Just received my £10 pensioners’ Xmas bonus from DWP. Introduced in 1972 by Ted Heath and never adjusted for inflation, it was then worth nearly a week’s pension for a couple, and would be worth £169 today. I don’t need it. Suggest they scrap it and add £10 to WFA for those that qualify
🚨BOOM! The Petition calling for a public inquiry into Russian influence on UK politics & democracy has now rocketed past 80,000 signatures! Let’s get it to 100,000 this weekend. If a petition is what it’s going to take let’s get this done! petition.parliament.uk/petitions/74...
As a podcast addict I’ve listened to the budget analysis on ‘Politics at Sam & Anne’s’, ‘The Rest is Politics’, ‘The Newsagents’ and ‘Newscast’, but by far the best and most even handed was ‘Quiet Riot’ well done @pimlicat.bsky.social and @sturdyalex.bsky.social
Wes on Sarah Pochin: "She's only sorry because she's ccaught and called out" Very (very!) strong words from the Health Secretary calling out racists and Reform for their disgusting words and actions. "Reform are not fit to govern" he says. And I totally agree! www.instagram.com/p/DQRMBYtAgPi/
Loved Wes Streeting’s brilliant attack on Reform on LK 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
So Your Party’s policy is to leave NATO because it’s ‘An imperial war machine’. Sultana finally saying out loud what we always thought Corbyn believed but couldn’t say while in Labour. Dangerous people who shouldn’t (and won’t) ever be anywhere near power
I heard on the radio that the cost of rebuilding Gaza is estimated to be £40-50 billion. The cost of HS2 is likely to be £40-80 billion. That seems a strange equivalence; the homes, businesses and infrastructure of 2 million people, versus a railway line from London to Birmingham
Pleased that Keir Starmer apologised to Liz Saville-Roberts for being overly rude to her at last week’s PMQs. That was the decent thing to do. I know he was angry after his exchange with Badenoch but his reply to LS-R was unbecoming
If Badenoch criticises the EU-UK reset at PMQs tomorrow she will be skewered for opposing even the demonstrably good parts, in the same way that she was over the US-UK tariff deal when Starmer just told her to go and talk to workers at JLR, British Steel and Scottish distilleries
I’m enjoying the brief interlude when my BlueSky feed is full of praise for Starmer and his EU reset
BBC News online leads with ‘EU and UK reach 12-year fishing deal as leaders arrive for London summit’ not ‘EU and UK agree a defence and security pact’! But then continuing the existing fisheries agreement for 12 years is clearly more newsworthy than the security and defence of the nation - not!
Waiting to see whether Badenoch or Farage will be first to describe the US trade deal as ‘a bad deal for Britain’. These aren’t glass half full or half empty people, they’re glass completely empty
Just watched the ministerial statement ‘MPs denied entry to Israel’ in the HoC. What a day of shame for the Tories and especially Kemi Badenoch
There are some really unpleasant people around aren’t there
Were there any MPs from Reform UK Ltd in the House to hear the PM’s Security and Defence Statement today? Or were they still waiting for instructions from the Kremlin on how to react?
Haha! Just checked my LinkedIn profile and find it exaggerated my last full time position by 8 years! Now corrected. I suppose I should resign but I’ve been retired for 7 years

@samcoatessky.bsky.social You have to find a Dave to replace Jack! ‘Politics at Sam and Dave’s’ would be so cool. Think of the theme music options, as well as the second career on the soul music tribute circuit!
I hope Keir Starmer has Jess Phillips sitting next to him at the next PMQs and calls out Kemi Badenoch if she gives even a hint of excusing Musk
Reluctantly I have decided to block accounts that just say there is no difference between Labour and the Tories. Love or loathe the government, that is such lazy nonsense. There have been a shed load of changes enacted or in progress that the Tories didn’t and wouldn’t do, and currently oppose

Good news that the new Labour Government in England has removed the arbitrary deadline imposed by Tories of 2031 to register public rights of way [massive council backlog] In Scotland thanks to 1st devolved Labour led government we’ve had a legal right to roam [responsibly] anywhere for >20 years
