Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" is set on August 4th, 2026. It has an audiobook read by Leonard Nimoy. It is 15 minutes long. We give our last closing warning at 1945, for a 2000 closure. Tonight, the whole library is listening to a story set in the far future of today.
I have automated updates turned off for apps on my ipad specifically bc Kindle updates suck Yesterday I read Kindle books all day Today the UI was updated. Only on this app. And it is the worst yet. Is there some kind of extra setting that says NO UPDATES WITHOUT PERMISSION I AM EXTREMELY SERIOUS?

6:30 dragged myself out of bed, feeling terrible 6:45 decided to go to work anyway, needed to write up a report on Weekend Library Shenanigans 8:45 drove by gas station, sees gas is under 4$ 8:47 thought “huh, I really should have filled up, huh?” 10:00 hand in report
Our scanner looks different, but this is the same general process my institution used to digitize books as well.

I don’t often do tech support for patrons at work, so take this with a grain of salt. However. I’m used to coaching the elderly on typing/ mouse skills. But I think schools have lately been like “typing is something kids will pick up by osmosis because every household has a computer”

I was 10 and had chicken pox, and I was slightly too old for it so I had it bad. But I was old enough to know my folks were stressed about money with two kids sick at once and I didn’t want to worry them anymore than I had to. Also, of note, Mom did not approve of comic books.

The Beatles, and I say this as a lifelong fan, were fun. They were creative. They were little boys playing with music and we all get to play along. And a lot of that playfulness turned out to be innovation that other musicians used beautifully. However. They were not musicians. They were showmen.

Boy have medical sociologists got news for them about literally all disorders (I am a sociologist with raging ADHD that didn’t get a diagnosis & the associated very helpful meds until I was 40 bc of the ways this particular social construct intersects with sexism, mainly)
