Studying Naval Warfare & Economics from the late 19th century to today.
It's 2026, and that means a new addition of my 'ten largest navies by aggregate tonnage' - made to help illustrate that counting hull numbers alone does not tell the full story. See the following post for the link to the full commentary
So the CRS for BBG(X) is out. I've not read every CRS there is out there, but I've read quite a few - and I don't believe I've ever seen this level of incredulity bleed through the text. The fundamental question of "why?" hangs over it like a thunderhead. Link: www.congress.gov/crs-product/...
This an interesting interview with the CO of one of the Italian Navy's PPA 'Light' (Thaon di Revel herself) by ESD. euro-sd.com/2025/05/arti... Count that as another strike against the 'minimal crewing through automation' concept:
Don't think i agree with this. The industrial capacity of the US has waxed and waned over the CW. It wasn't always MEGA HUGE. In the late 60s - early 70s, it wasn't doing so great. Consistent investments that start in the late 70s to 80s resulted in it reaching peak during the end of this period.
And a divided US which keeps sending its leaders around the world to tell everyone we don't care about allies REALLY makes war more likely. The PRC talks a lot of bullshit about no first use but make no mistake, they plan to run a nuclear blackmail campaign to deter us if they make a play for 🇹🇼.
Probably for the best this is my first post on this platform; It's 2025, and that means a new addition of my 'ten largest navies by aggregate tonnage' - made to help illustrate that counting hull numbers alone does not tell the full story. See the following post for the link to the full commentary
It might honestly be the 'best' era. Balance of power between firepower and protection seesawing every half decade, complete revolutions in technology across the board, and very heterogenous solutions to 'how to build a warship'. Truly, one of the strangest but most intriguing naval eras.
the pre pre-dreadnought ironclad era is SO fucked up
