Why do paths through the Sierpiński triangle correspond to allowed sequences of moves in the Tower of Hanoi? Suppose we have 3 discs. Say (3,2,3) means "biggest disc on post 3, second biggest on post 2, third biggest on post 3". Suppose edges are allowed moves. We get this picture! (4/n)

If we draw all allowed states of the n-disc Tower of Hanoi puzzle, connected by edges representing allowed moves, we get a finite approximation of the Sierpinski triangle.  This is the picture for n = 3, taken from here:

Been practicing "Mais Quand?" by Erik Mongraine. Haven't learned the best part yet but if you haven't heard the song before you might not notice that I omitted it :P

If you're given only twelve 1 ohm resistors but you need a circuit with an equivalent resistance of pi (approximated as closely as possible), and you have to use all of the resistors (no shorting or leaving them out), here the ways to get 22/7 ohms (which is the best you can do). #math #circuits
