So very, very confused by it all. But, heck, that keeps it interesting.
It’ll have to be done, even for non-ideological reasons. Whenever someone threatens to do something like this in the first instance, the warning is that when the other party takes control, they’ll do it right back. If that second party declines to do it right back, that check is useless forever.
Aside from the obvious, what I hate most about this is that he's politicized the military for at least a generation. The next Democratic administration will be *forced* to politicize promotions and firings as part of a fundamental, necessary course correction. We will need to purge MAGA and rebuild.
Trump on dictators and war criminals: great conversation, they’re behaving very well, nothing to worry about. Trump on America’s closest allies: trade war, tariffs, they treated us badly, they’re nasty people. 👍🏻
“I’ve had a good talk with Putin. He’s said he’s not going to be attacking NATO territory,” – Trump. Oh, well, if Putin said so… I guess that is true then.
I can't not recommend it. It's got Ernie Hudson, Laura Linny, and Dylan Walsh with Tim Curry and a talking ape all of whom are really selling their roles. One of my favorite films.
Mentioning it bc nobody else has, but Tim Curry was in Congo, one of my favorite fun films, playing a "philanthropist" who has apparently pissed off officials on five continents, and it's brilliantly hammy in a brilliantly hammy film. Herkermer Homolka. HAH.
It’s a week of milestones for NASA’s Curiosity rover! First up - reaching 1 km above our Gale crater floor landing site! science.nasa.gov/mars/curiosi... And next up (this weekend!) - Sol 5000! Go Curiosity Go!

Reminder - table top fire pits like this are dangerous. If you have one at home, toss it. If there is one at your vacation rental, don't use it.
"Libraries don't need to keep physical journals now that everything is online" The journals online:
this is one of the key reasons it makes NO sense for 007 not to be a bisexual gig sometimes the person you have to seduce for intel is gonna be a man and THEN what are you gonna do?? come on now
As it happens, I was watching the Criterion commentary track for From Russia With Love today, and on it one of the filmmakers notes that the early Bond uses his sexual appeal as a crucial part of his spycraft. He doesn't *quite* say out loud that Bond is a sex worker, but that's the takeaway.
YES EXACTLY and now we've snapped back and once again it's gay to enjoy women
I read a study years ago that looked at how James Bond and Playboy magazine (among others) kind of redefined masculinity, adopting things like being a passionate lover and having sophisticated tastes, which are decade earlier were considered to be effeminate traits. Kirk fits into that mold too.
The most baffling thing for me is the men who think that pleasing women sexually makes them weak. Dude, if I were a straight man, one of my main purposes in life would be making sure women thought I was spectacular and giving in bed. I would be so fucking proud of it.
When guys actually like women......... it can lead to their buddies calling them "gay"
As expected, DOJ is appealing Judge Talwani's TRO to the First Circuit, and will (almost certainly) go to #SCOTUS if/when the court of appeals refuses to stay it pending appeal. TL;DR: Mail-in ballots will be back before the justices by as early as the middle of next week...
#BREAKING: In the League of Women Voters case, Judge Talwani (D. Mass.) has issued a temporary restraining order freezing the USPS Final Rule on mail-in ballots from going into effect for 14 days (while the parties litigate whether she should enter a preliminary injunction blocking it indefinitely).
THE TICK: Time is funny. The things we do become the things we did. And the things we did sometimes become our undoing. Makes us think about the things we do do. THE TICK (chuckles softly): Told you it was funny. #TheTick #Superheroes #PrimeVideo
Amazing to live in a country where the secret police are handling inter-chud beefs. It's like the Night of Long Knives playing out in the parking lot of a Dollar General.
Laura Loomer is taking credit for Milo getting detained by ICE.
Trump's announcement today that he's trying to make it so farmers and ranchers can "process their own food" came directly from Glenn Beck during their interview the other day. So America now has a right-wing shock jock making our agricultural policy. Good times!
For all the talk that a cohort of people on here like to push about equal rights under the law within "Israel Proper", here is the Finance Minister of Israel explicitly saying that his goal is to do demographic changes in the Negev and Galilee and to reduce the Arab population. Both within 48.
Smotrich calls to ‘Judaize’ Negev, Galilee as part of his settlement ‘revolution’
Far-right minister's pre-election plan would establish dozens of towns for one million new Jewish residents while curbing Arab building

This is what I'm referring to btw, visually. Sure, the gap would be smaller if we had a higher minimum wage and/or stronger unions, but there would still be a gap. The one sure way to close that gap is through a UBI, and the great benefit of doing it via UBI is to also reach all unpaid workers too.
Jobs as a fair income distribution system broke 50 years ago and will only continue getting worse because of the amount of income that flows to wealth and the way wealth buys politicians. We need to tax wealth, distribute Universal Basic Income as a national dividend, and get money out of politics.
US corporate profits have hit a record high of over $9 trillion the first half of this year, while workers’ slice of the pie has recently sunk to historic lows.
Cry and do nothing ism is a proud tradition of all politicians on this issue for going on six decades sadly
Hate to be contrarian and cynical but the evidence that the next Democratic-led US government will do anything differently on Palestine than the previous one is thus far pretty thin sorry

It’s been almost 90 days since the American people have seen or heard from Mitch McConnell. We’re still paying his salary.
