I survived my hung over trip to the Japanese grocery in the suburbs. So much childhood nostalgia foods I didn’t buy, because I can’t eat them all by myself. I’ll get some of those when I have to go to my parents’ house next. Today I was gathering ingredients for my Bachan’s sushi rolls.

It is very important to make your own rice cracker mix. All my salty sweet spicy favourites. That way I’m not picking through for the ones I like, and the last handfuls are ones I actively dislike.

A photo of a mix of various Japanese rice crackers, wasabi peas and peanuts.

I had one (1) very fancy cocktail at my friend’s birthday dinner a very nice pdx Russian restaurant, and I have a raging headache this morning. I wasn’t even tipsy!

I hope I have the wherewithal to draw tomorrow. Tomorrow is “yokai,” and I will for sure be drawing a yokai. Not sure which one. Past yokai: 化け猫、アマビエ、傘お化け、猫又

Ink drawing of a bakeneko, a two tailed cat dancing on its hind legs with a tea towel on its head. This particular 化け猫 is depicted as a tabby cat. Amabie, a three tailed mermaid of sorts with a beak who appears during plague times. She’s done in paint and ink on paper sitting on a rock in the water under the night sky. Ink by me passing by Brent Wear. An ink drawing of Kasa Obake, a sentient red umbrella portrayed here with one eye, “mouth” torn open with a forked sticking out, hopping on one fishnet stockinged leg wearing a classic character tap shoe. An ink drawing of a nekomata, a cat with two tails: each tipped in flame, portrayed as a white cat with black spots. Claws out, of course.

My poor cat (who is not allowed in the closet) snuck into the closet this morning before I left the house. As a result she was locked in the closet for the 12 hours I was gone. Tiny cat jerk.

Millinery class day 2: yesterday was blocking today was doing all of the finishing. We pulled the hats off the blocks, trimmed them down, finished the brims, sewed internal bands, external bands and embellishments.

I just remembered this existed. I’m going to lay some ink over it. Yes those are haunted taxidermied kittens on one of those Dutch barges full of cats. That’s all the information you need. Started with my art partner in crime, Brent Wear circa 2018. Sing “kitten boat” ominously to the TMA theme.

A partially inked over painting of two orange taxidermied kittens. One is dressed like Napoleon, the other in a lace trimmed Victorian dress with a red parasol. The boat has round windows with wide eyed cats peering out of them. Acrylic paint and ink on paper.

Got an email after vociferously complaining about my favourite drawing pens being discontinued that they were making a new refillable version, that: 1. Looks like a cheaper version of the original and 2. No nibs or ink cartridges are available for sale? copicmarkers.com/collections/...

The crushing disappointment of thinking you are about to learn a new cool or time-saving technique: Me watching my boss sticking pins in in opposite directions when pinning a skirt onto a bodice: "Oh is there a reason why you're doing that?" Her: "No, that's just where I could get them in." Dammit.

Today’s prompt is “grave” uninspired. Tomorrow’s is “haunted house.” May forgo Friday “Frankenstein” and Saturday “jabberwocky,” I will for sure be doing “yokai” and likely “raven.“ Yokai will be a difficult choice. Haunted house I have an idea. I’m tempted to draw a crow and a raven side by side.

#inktober day 6 “mushroom” Today I learned from my favourite grocery store person told me about the inky cap mushroom. They literally melt to spread their spores. I also learned that they’re edible, but will poison you if combined with alcohol. Drawn, not pencilled out and inked in. #drawtober

An ink drawing of inky cap mushrooms. 9 of them in various stages of melting. Drawn in my calendar. You can vaguely see my Japanese study notes. Drawn with a 0.1 Copic Multiliner
